Sounders Sign Costa Rican Defender

Leonardo González played for Costa Rica in the 2006 World Cup

We mentioned it last week, it’s official now- Seattle Sounders FC have Signed Costa Rican National Team Defender Leonardo Gonzalez.

The 28-year old González has 59 caps for the Costa Rican National Team and represented them in the 2006 World Cup. He last played for Municipal Liberia int eh CR Primera Division.

There is no doubt that Leo could secure a wing back position for the Sounders and help firm up the defense. He will join the squad after the Gold Cup.

US Open Cup Tickets on Sale Now!

Tickets for next Tuesday’s US Open Cup Quarterfinal match against the Kansas City Wizards went on sale at 10a today on Ticketmaster.

The game will be held at Starfire Sports in Tukwila on July 7th. Kickoff is set for 7p.

If the Sounders win, they will host the Semifinal match on July 21 at Starfire against the winner of the Charleston Battery-Houston Dynamo winner.

well, as promised, some thoughts about tonight. just got back to my house and i would be lying if i said i wasn’t tired. but i am such the professional, how can i keep my promise.

the thing is, you probably have a better opinion of me on the match and the play by play b/c sitting pretty much at field level, in the middle of flags and smoke bombs down at the corner, well i had little chance to analyze much of the game. but as for the trip it self, well i wax on about that. Portland Timbers 1: :2 Seattle Sounders FC

Seattle got a goal from Roger Levesque in the first minute and then from Steven King in the 26th as the Sounders defeated the Portland Timbers 2-1 in the Third Round of the US Open Cup.

The goal was Levesque’s 10th goal against Portland, this time it was in front of a crowd of 16,321 at PGE Park.

Next week, Seattle will host Kansas City in the Quarterfinals. The Wizards defeated the Minnesota Thunder yesterday in the Quarterfinals.

petite vs washborn tonight

why should you care? well you should care b/c this could be good news for the sounders. i am not a baseball stat head, but from what i understand, petite is a rather fast worker, and i know that Washburn is for sure. looking at the numbers, they are in our favor for a quick game… this is obviously better for the sounders fans watching on tv tonight. there are 2 things we need to hope for.

1. the yankees don’t crush washburn b/c we need him to stay in the game for his quick game speed and

2. the mariners provide washburn with the poor run support they always provide him. Read more

US Open Cup: Portland Timbers Preview

Seattle heads south to Portland to take on the USL Timbers in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup on Wednesday.

The Sounders have earned their spot into the Third Round of the US Open Cup by defeating Real Salt Lake and the Colorado Rapids in the two MLS Play-In matches.

Portland has reached the Third Round as a USL-1 representative by defeating the Kitsap Pumas and the Sonoma County Sol to meet Seattle. Both of their Open Cup wins were 3-0 victories for the Timbers. Read more
