Former University of Washington and USL Seattle Sounder goalkeeper Chris Eylander has signed an MLS contract to play for Seattle Sounders FC.

Eylander, 24, has spent the past three season with the USL Sounders and was named “Player of the US Open Cup“.

Of course this isn’t earth-shattering news. New head coach Sigi Schmid leaked this information last month on Fx Football Fone-In saying that he “will be able to work under Kasey for a year or two

Eylander, the Sumner, WA native, joins Sanna Nyassi and Sebastien LeToux as members of the USL squad to earn an MLS contract with Sounders FC.

Sigi Schmid…

We’re very excited to have Chris join our team. I’ve seen him play at the University of Washington and I also followed his career with the USL Sounders. He’s a quality goalkeeper and a quality individual for our team.

one of my personal highlights of Eylander was Beating Kansas City in the U.S. Open cup in PK’s. He was tremendous in that match.

He’s completely stepped up his game in both LH US Open Cups!

Chris and I used to have German class together back in high school. I remember asking him one time if he wanted to play soccer professionally and of course he said yes. I am so happy that he reached his goal of being able to play for the first MLS team in Seattle! I hope to see him someday in the World Cup. :)
