Quick Recap from the First Community Awareness Event
From our Field Reporter who was at the George & Dragon tonight for Sounder FC’s first Community Awareness event for Seattle SCORES, here are some quick notes…
- Adrian Hanauer, Sigi Schmid, and Kasey Keller were in attendance.
- Adrian noted that they are still finalizing Fredy Montero’s contract. He also noted that there are no FIFA rules being broken by the 65% ownership of the Colombian striker.
- Montero’s shot is the “heaviest” on the team at the moment. Fredy says the ball is “light”, but no one else on the team is striking it like him.
- Kasey mentioned that he has been impressed by James Riley at defense and how he is opening to listening and tuning his game to the instruction(s) he is given.
- Sigi said that he has been impressed by Nate Jaqua, Steve Zakuani, and Montero up front. Sebastien LeToux’s hustle and aggressiveness has also been noted and appreciated. He added that Brad Evans was the best at midfield getting the ball up/over/past the back line.
- Adrian, the friendly with Chelsea is “very, very, very close to happening. But not 100%”.
- Hanauer also confirmed that Osvaldo Alonso would be joining the team.
- The team is still looking to sign American and International central and outside defenders.
- Jeff Parke is still trying to be signed- “he just needs to figure out what he wants” according to Adrian.
- Sigi and Adrian gave generic answers about their favorites in the Sounder SuperSearch, if they could compete at the MLS level, and what they expect to get from the competition.
- Kasey shared the tale of when he was playing for Mönchengladbach and they beat Cologne prompting Keller to start an Anti-Cologne chant that caused him to be fined €3000.
