Players Competing for Spots

We’re just going to do a quick rundown of who is in camp, who is “In”, who is fighting for one of the 20 Senior Roster spots and 4 Developmental spots.

Forwards

  • Kevin Forrest

Solid (2): Jaqua, Montero, and Zakuani are in. Zakuani’s contract would keep him on the Developmental Roster.

Midfielders

  • Roger Levesque
  • Sebastien LeToux
  • Freddie Ljungberg
  • Sanna Nyassi

Defenders

  • Evan Brown

Going through the list was actually easier than I originally thought. This gives us 18 Senior players and 1 Developmental player. TWO free senior spots are open.

Are Expnasion Draft picks Jarrod Smith & Peter Vagenas assured of a roster spot when they are healthy? Roger Levesque wore the captain’s armband a few times down in Argentina so one could think that he is a step up on everyone else. How about the former Huskies from Montlake; Ely Allen and Kevin Forrest- will their local ties and previous MLS experience help them? And the new kid Tom Taiwo who showed up yesterday- will his experience from the Chelsea youth program help him land a spot?

    I would love to see Roger stick around. He was such a class act and fun to watch back with the USL Sounders. Keeping my fingers crossed.

    Am I the only person still holding out hope for Jeff Parke?

    If I’m Parke, I wouldn’t have felt any real urgency to sign, or get moved, until now. Right? He knows he cannot play a game, and he didn’ think (until today?) that he could even practice. Now the equation has changed.

    Salary figures show that the Sounders still have space, didn’t they?

    A couple of discrepancies here.  First, Levesque is a forward, not a midfielder, and Vagenas is a midfielder, not defender.  He is an MLS veteran and a Sigi fave, so a lock to make the roster.  He may start the season on the DL, as Jarrod Smith will.  Finally, its “Keller” not “Kelley” but I’m sure you knew that.

    I think Levesque and Zach Scott both make the opening day roster, as fill-ins for the two on the DL.  That really only leaves three openings on the Developmental Roster.  From there look for Allen, Forrest, Randolph and/or Taiwo to fill out those spots, with a possibility of bringing in a new face as well.

    Actually, if you read the match reports, Roger HAS been playing mid.
