r4174410397.jpgthere are loads of places you can go to in order to get a well written well thought out journalistic piece that gives you a brief game summary and a few well placed comments from players and coaches. well this really isn’t one of them.

i am a fan, not a journalist. i am opinionated, not always fair. i say what i think based upon the facts that i have, but i will admit… there may be a fact or two missing. in other words, i am much like you. i like to talk footy and i am passionate about it.

so with that, i am not going to write a game summary, i am just going to bullet point my thoughts/feelings about yesterdays 2-0 win against toronto. i felt it went well last week, so lets just stick with it from now on.

in no understandable order what so ever…

- the obvious goal aside, freddie ljungberg had a pretty darn good game. i thought his work rate was solid, and passes were useful. the thing i see him (and his team mates) needing to work on is their understanding with each other. i think freddie is used to certain positions making certain runs, and it seemed to surprise him a bit when that support or run wasn’t there. it doesn’t mean his team mates were wrong, just not doing what he expected.

- as for the goal, that was actually a perfect example of exactly what freddie was looking for, and jaqua provided a precision pass, to complete the give and go, right into freddies path. the finish was “as cool as you like” and it was feel good moment #243 so far in this fairy tale season that we seam to be living in right now.

- i really put the second goal down to tenacity and a little bit of good luck. the ball bounced where we needed it to, but the tenacity of all the players to keep the ball alive is the reason for the goal. it started with ljungberg, and then to alonso (i think), then jaqua’s shot and ultimately falling to zakuani who finished nicely. i love these types of goals. they aren’t the prettiest, and they have an element of luck, but as they say, you make your own luck, and being in the right place at the right time is a skill. keeping with the ball is a beautiful thing, and when you do it, these types of things happen.

- the defence is a bit of an interesting one for me. we can point to zero goals scored in 3 games and say we have the best defence in the league. how can i tell you that you are wrong? well, i can’t really, but we can just as easily think back to the last 2 matches at least and point to at least 6 instances where we fell asleep a little, made a bad pass, were lucky that the shot was botched or had an amazing keller save. 3 clean sheets in a row is fantastic, but i think we need to temper it a little as i don’t think we have dominated in defence, and we could have let in quite a few goals to be sure. no less, it is what it is, and I will take it.

ok, got to run. family in the car waiting for me to go to breakfast. and i need coffee.

COME ON YOU SOUNDERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSss
