proof of sounders popularity
as if you needed me to tell you that people are all a buzz about the sounders, the Times has 2 interesting articles in todays paper.
the first is a soccer 101 type article explaining some of the basics in the game to those that are trying to get up to speed. for the most part, i like that this is out there, but if there was one wish i had, i wish that this article would do more than just define the rules, i wish it would explain a little more of the nuances of the game and why a nil-nil game can actually be very exciting…
the second is a piece by steve kelley which is a little more of what i wanted in the first. i think he does a very good job capturing a lot of the things we all love about the game. the only mistake that he makes is that he somewhat compares the game to basketball. for those regular readers, you will know that i hate basketball with a passion, well at least NBA… college is A LOT better. but i digress. his article is nice to read b/c you don’t get much of that positive press from a basketball/american football/baseball type of sports writer.
anyway, nice to see to footy related articles in our local paper on the same day… and neither one is the expected game summary.
