A 3rd Goalkeeper to Camp?

Ives Galarcep is reporting that the New York Red Bulls have released their #2 keeper, Alec Dufty. Ives goes a bit further and notes that Dufty is en route to Seattle to possibly try and earn a spot on the Sounders FC roster… for at least one week.

Dufty has played 82 minutes in the net for New York this year making two saves and not letting any ball passed him.

Interesting.  I watched about half an hour of the Houston-NY game replay today — the part  after Cepero was taken out with a concussion.  Dufty wasn’t tested a whole lot, but he looked pretty good.  And he’s a big, physical presence.  6’5″ if I remember correctly.   So that wouldn’t be horrible.

But who would get the shaft to make room on the roster?  And do we want/need a roster spot for a third keeper?

My take- and only my take- is that Sigi probably doesn’t think that Eylander is ready.

Eylander should be able to step up and play at the MLS level- no doubt. Maybe Chris’s performance against Portland yesterday left Sigi a little worried.

My guess is that this Keller red card situation is putting pressure on advancing Eylander’s return, and that he simply isn’t back to 100% from his knee.

I need to go and read up on MLS contracts- are there 1 game deals? I think we only need could use Dufty for a week.
