Soundwave Moving to the North End

The big news coming from Qwest Field today is that the band will be moving to the North End of Qwest Field.

Leaving its spot on the southern endline, Soundwave will have a specific section right below the Hawk’s Nest in an effort to “enhance the energy in the North End,” according to Bart Wiley.

What I learned from this… if you whine and act like babies with a sense of entitlement, you get what you want.

    Pretty much.

    Awesome!

Wow.  This is big.  And a good compromise.  I love ECS & Co, but I love the band, too.   Let them do their separate things as far apart as possible and I think we create win-win for the majority of the stadium.  Right?

    Tell me I’m right.

  • Funk ECS

ECS is cool supporters groups they just do alot of shit I dont like. Like constaly complain about something. You got your wishes now stop acting like babies.

  • Arun

I heard “the Sound Wave will be located right below the Hawk’s Nest in a specially created structure”. What will happen to the seats vacated by Sound Wave members?

  • Jon

    1.  seats will prob. be sold to ECS members.  If you haven’t gotten in yet… you should.

    2.  ”babies” is quite the overstatement indeed.  How about this.  ”If you engage in a constructive dialogue with two parties, most often you can arrive at a conclusion benefitting both parties for the benefit of the whole.”

I applaud the move, have nothing against the band, and I hope that the easier ECS chants will be heard even more now.

All is well in the world, the sound wave has migrated north, that’s 57 more seats I believe for the ticket paying population, this is democracy in action. The elected council of the membership has spoken.  But when does this take effect?

    soundersfootblogger Reply:

this had nothing to do with the council. i am on the council and we were not engaged on this matter at all. this was a 100% a FO decision.

I like the band, but I don’t think they have found their role yet. They provide a great atmosphere for the march to the match, but I don’t think the entire band should play during the run of play. That said, I think ECS failed to take advantage of having the band next to them. We can hear the horns and drums from the band all over the stadium. ECS and the band could have coordinated to start whole-stadium chants and songs using one or two horns or the drums. Other than this, the band should play pre-game, half-time, post-game, and maybe after goals.

  • JB

I have tix at the North end…and, while I don’t have anything against the band, I don’t think I will like them right below me blairing the entire time.    ECS whined, Sounders Management….you listened…(wait, I thought we weere part of the management team???) but will you listen again when you have a less organized but very vocal crowd bending your ear when we have had too much of them?

  • PH

Fuck ECS, you fucking whining shits.

    GoSounders Reply:

Hey Now… The ECS brings an environment to Qwest and other stadiums like no other group.

    ecsHATER Reply:

If by environment you mean creating more whiny babies, then yes they bring that to the stadium.

“The ECS brings an environment to Qwest and other stadiums like no other group.”

Actually, the rest of the stadium would do just fine without them. You can’t hear any of their songs unless you are in the south end, and the only chant that can be picked up on is the standard “SOUNDERS!” chant because of the visual clue with the V-arms.

The atmosphere is not created by a few sections way down in the south end zone. It is created by the rest of the 28,000 people, most of who don’t give two shits about ECS. I considered joining ECS early on, but one look at their forum reveals how whiny and petty they all are.

The ECS has been the primary source of bringing atmosphere and enthusiasm for the Sounders over the past 4 years.  With that comes a tradition, a way of doing things and relationships with others that didn’t wholly mesh with what the Sound Wave brings to the experience.  If appealing to the FO and Qwest through the Council, speaking with the owners, getting fan opinions and coming to a compromise were everyone benefits is “whining” I fear the democratic process is lost on too many.

The Band was positioned poorly by being placed besides the most visible, most audible and largest supporter group the Sounders have.  By moving the Band the oppurtunity to spread what they were envisioned to bring to the games is allowed to take root.  Something that was not all too likely when placed in an area already firmly established.

The ECS is the single largest organized association of fans the Sounders have.  With nearly 1,000 members who are all rabid fans and each with an opinion.  I look forward to having all ends of the stadium blowing up with enthusiastic supporters.  All fans, and the North End in particular, have won out on this change.

[...] Sounders FO. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth and frustration among all parties, SoundWave will be moving to the North End, below the Hawk’s Nest. Which, for a neutral like me, seems like an adequate [...]

You ECS bashers need to get a fucking clue.

If you think for one minute the Front Office gives a fuck about whining fans you’re inbred.  Go back to Portland.  If you think the ECS has the power to get the band moved then you should all keep quiet before they order the FO to make ECS membership mandatory for season ticket holders.

Not one of you realizes by moving the band there are now 50+ more season ticket holders.  50+ more patrons to the local establishments.  50+ more empty holes to fill with booze and food at the stands.  100+ more pairs of hands to snatch up merchandise at the vendor booths.

If the FO moved the band to accomidate the ECS they wouldn’t have put them in a spot to piss off another group of season ticket holders in the north end.  They’d of just put them on the field or fired them.  Anyone of you who truly believes in that whining bullshit needs to get off your mom before she wakes up from the roofies.

Wow Dude grow up. What are you 5??? Ya lets bring Moms into this. I guess Mothers day is close.  Your comment explains alot, ouch!!!

This sucks and so does the ECS. Get over yourselves. Im A huge fan have made just about every game for the last 4-5yrs and just because im not abnoxious and not SPENT im less than A fan. Screw you!!! Thanks for the support but your roughly 1000people we are 27000.

  • scott47a

Umm … I sit in the North End and I have no idea where you believe these folks will sit. The North End is sold out, I believe, for the entire season. More details would be greatly appreciated.

  • Fnarf

The reason you can’t hear the ECS’s songs is because the damn marching band drowns them out before they get started. I’d like to hear some stadium-wide singing, not a terrible marching band version of “No Woman No Cry” (is this the worst song of all time, and the least appropriate for an upbeat match atmosphere?)

I love the band coming into the stadium. During the match, they’re HORRIBLE. This isn’t college football.

I am not an ECS member, just a fan.
