Season Ticket “B”
When Sounders FC season ticket holders (STHs) received their package, they received tickets to three bonus games- uniquely labeled Friendly Match A, B, and C.
This week’s email to STHs confirmed what everyone assumed- the Chelsea match on July 18th was “Ticket A“.
When the official announcement was made that Qwest Field would host the MLS Cup in November it was noted that that would be one of the three bonus games for Season Ticket Holders.
Seeing as that is the last game of the MLS season, and following the front to back nature of the ticket booklet, we can only assume that the MLS Cup is “Ticket C“.
So what about “Ticket B“?
Well, we know that this club does things BIG (note: Kasey Keller, Freddie Ljungeberg, Sigi Schmid, Microsoft/Xbox, Chelsea, MLS Cup, etc…) so one would think that Ticket B would be a friendly of international substance.
Nothing has been confirmed from the Sounders FC Front Office, but there are hints and whispers from a certain Catalan club that continue to gain momentum about a trip to Seattle… FC Barcelona.
We noted late last year that hosting Barça in an international friendly was a loud rumor. A well-reputed FCBarcelona blog has noted recently in the past month that the club from Camp Nou is headed to the US for their summer tour with destinations of Miami (or New York), Los Angeles, and Seattle. Locally, bulletin boards are buzzing with inside information that Barcelona is headed to Seattle.
On the flip side of the argument, there are sides who believe that Miami’s failed bid (backed by FCB) at getting an MLS club would kill any plans for the Spanish club to head to the USA this summer. Throw in FCB’s desire for an Asian Tour and the chances of Barça heading to the States are diminished.
But, let’s just have fun and speculate…
With La Liga beginning at the end of August let’s take a look at Seattle’s and Barça’s schedule and see if we can try and figure out when a match would be played.
Sounders FC:
Saturday, July 25 vs. Chicago Fire
Sunday, August 02 at San Jose Earthquakes
Saturday, August 08 at Real Salt Lake
Saturday, August 15 at Los Angeles Galaxy
FC Barcelona will play in Los Angeles on August 1st. Trying to minimize the travel on their USA Tour, I would expect that they would want to play in Seattle within a week on either side of that date.
With the Sounders weekends booked up, the game would most likely be a mid-week matchup at the end of July or the beginning of August.
Logistically, it would seem to make sense, looking at the schedules for the match to be around July 28, 29, 30. Sounders FC would be coming off a home game on the 25th, and the Friendly would allow them to get prep time for the MLS Match in San Jose.
The other option would be August 4, 5, or 6th. This mid-week match would be sandwiched between two weekend away league fixtures, but they are the two closest MLS clubs; San Jose and Salt Lake.
So what do you think of Barcelona maybe coming to Seattle? If Barcelona isn’t Ticket B, who else would you like to see?
