thundersticks this sunday…. one time thing

Posted by yamsmos on May 7, 2009 · Under News · View Comments

all, i hate thundersticks… i mean hate them. hate them more than horns and hate them more than $9 bud lights….

but this sunday, the first 18,000 people will recived a paif of these as a game day promotion… this isn’t great for those of us that like the natural and amazing atmosphere that we have…

so as a responsible council member, i just got done talking to the FO about it.

i said, we have an amazing atmosphere, why ruin it with thundersticks?

their very honest response was essentially this. (and i am paraphrasing a bit).

“thundersticks do not fit our brand and you will not see them after this match. they were ordered 6-8 months ago as part of a match day sponsorship. at the time they were ordered, the match day atmosphere was an unknown. ”

everyone has been surprised by our atmosphere and how brilliant it has been. The FO does not want to ruin it. thundersticks at this sunday’s game is a result of a decision made at the time with the information at hand. obviously the information has now changed.

So this is a one time thing, it won’t happen again, and let’s live with it and look forward to not hearing them again the next match.

  • Wow

Seriously it is Mothers Day.  Why do you have to complain about the smallest things that some people might like.  You are like the person who sends back a drink at a bar because it is to strong.  Just leave things be and stop complaining.

i am representing the people that voted me in to council. in a quick poll… ALL of them disliked the idea. therefore, i am relaying that to the FO.

    the FO agreed with me.

if you like thunder sticks and horns… that is your right, most people don’t.  having those things banged in your ear for 90 minutes sucks!!!!

and what does mothers day have to do with anything?

    @wow, this isn’t the NCAA.

    THANK YOU for Voting
    NO ON THUNDERSTICKS!!

yeah, we won’t hear them at the next match because they are really cheap and barely last the entire game, you have to keep blowing them up, hopefully we score a bunch of early goals and they all spring leaks and everybody puts them down.

I wouldn’t be against plastic megaphones, like you used to get at baseball games filled with popcorn, eat the corn and get some Tifo.  At least those amplify the crowd, rather then add some random noise.

I have a solution for all of you who are having major problems to these Sounders issues. It is a 3 step program.
1.) Don’t go to Qwest for Soccer events.
2.) Build a support group for all of you pessimistic people.

3.) Move to Europe and leave us the hell alone.

Follow those 3 steps to find happyness.  Actually once you are in Europe you are going to wish things are like over here.  The grass is always greener people.  Grow up.

wow, i have an honest question for you. do you think the FO is PERFECT?  do you think that there is nothing that can be done to improve the atmosphere? do you think that this gets done perfect the first time?

we are all here to make the atmosphere BETTER. the FO themselves said it was a mistake to have the thundersticks… so which is it? were they right the first time? or are they correct now?

wanting the best possible atmosphere isn’t pessimism. most people hate those thundersticks…. 95% of the voters on this post think it is a bad/worst idea.

i got on the council to help make this atmosphere the best it can be, and artificial noise makers is something that i very much stand against. that isn’t what the sounders are about.

At least the FO is admitting they “didn’t know” – and it won’t happen again.  Toss them in your shwag bag – they’ll be collectors items in a few years.
