not sure we even deserved a point

not sure what to write… so i will just pause, take a deep breath and write what first comes to mind….

*pause*

WE WERE CRAP

ah, there, now i said it.

the first 20 minutes had me quite pleased. peppering the goal, fluid movement, and dominating possession…. then the game changed. i don’t know what did it, but we just decided to not run down the flanks and put balls into the box anymore. we were going to be lucky to make it to half 1-0 up but they took advantage of a lapse in defending to make it 1-1.

the half time talk must have been something like this “play like crap the second half and give them 3-4 clear chances to win the game”. if it was that, well, the boys listened to their coach to a tee.

so the main talking points.

our goal…. hurtado did really well to take his goal. he was a touch lucky that he wasn’t called for a high boot. yes the keeper was diving in, but we all know that keepers are like little porcelain dolls and are protected like nobodies business. it would surprise me if that was called. but luckily for us, it wasn’t.

their goal….mcgrath sounded like a blathering idiot when analyzing this one. the goal was not offsides, and it was not WAY over the 2 minutes. in fact, the goal was at 2:10 of stoppage, and they had the run of play. had that been our goal and it was disallowed 10 seconds over, i would be livid. not to mention, it is the referees prerogative to add time, on top of the stoppage time if there was a delay that warranted it. mcgrath also needs a few more pairs of drew’s glasses b/c ianni was holding rocha on by a few yards at least.

the second half…. well, we were just terrible. i don’t want to get into the details, but we had no fluidity and we played down to dallas’s level. we were very lucky to not give away another goal b/c they had some very good chances.

cliff mcgrath…. oh my word he is bad at announcing. he missed call after call and i will put it on mute if he is in the commentator box next game.

the only two players that i feel can really hold their head high from this match were evans and alonso. they were solid throughout the match and let’s hope that evans injury isn’t serious. keller didn’t do much wrong, but i am not commentating due to his position.

the bottom line on this game is, if you miss your chances and can’t put away a team that you should do, well, you pay the price. dallas may be a very poor team, but they are human just like our team and they could tell that during the game, we were not going to put them away. this allowed them to grow in confidence as ours started to deteriorate. if you give a team confidence you might as well let them play with 2 extra men on the pitch. this wouldn’t have happened had one of le toux, evans, montero, jacqua taken their VERY good chances. 2-0 would have turned into 4 -0 in my opinion.

while some might say we can just be happy that houston, chivas, colorado all drew and RSL lost, but you know what, i am not. we could have gained points on chivas and distanced ourselves more from the others. so i don’t want to hear that crap.

finally, step aside beckerman… don’t even apply de rossario… the stupidest and worst hair in the MLS goes to brek shea. his hair looks part rooster and part shag carpet mixed together with 12 ounces of hydrogen peroxide, a broken pair of hair clippers and electric shock therapy. the only logical explanation could be a lost bet. for his sake i hope that is true.

well, somehow when i have nothing to say, i have a lot to say…. what say you.

    What you said.

We made a bad team look good.

However, FCD did not make us look bad. We made us look bad.

I think the Fire made us look bad. But this one, we did to ourselves.

totally, it reminded me of my tennis playing days back in high school. i was never the best player, but i was decent. i could play our best player and always give him a run for his money, and sometimes beat him. but you put a very poor player accross the net from me, and i was terrible. i don’t know what it was. i mentally just couldn’t dominate someone that was clearly not as good as i was skill wise. i couldn’t put them away.
we must be able to develop that part of our game.

pure genious! fully hilarious but makes it all the more unbelievable that we couldn’t beat a team w/ a d****e bag hair job like that.

Have to agree. Maybe the worst soccer I’ve seen in at least a year at any level the second half. I’ve seen U-15 teams with better composure, decision making, control, and fortitude. We must have practiced in hoops shirts all week, because we couldn’t complete a pass to anyone other than in red hoops. We’re not talking tough passes they broke in to intercept, but the most inept passing by a squad I’ve seen in ages. Could we simply make the safe pass and kick it around a bit to regain momentum and confidence? Apparently not. Sigi’s instructions must be to pass it into a player surrounded by three defenders with no possible way to escape instead of switching the field, or clearing to an unmarked teammate. I can’t beat this dead horse enough, our passing and decision making was so pathetic that every moment of training this week should be beep tests until puking and triangle drills. Over, and over, and over! The display last night is simply inexcusable and play like that should not be tolerated or supported, or dismissed by anyone from fans to coaches. This is a continuation of a pathetic, lethargic, selfish, idiotic, ignorant trend of football that must be corrected and I mean NOW!

We should have put FCD away early in the first half.  Those goals we couldn’t put away sure hurt us in the second half.  And what was with Montero taking shots off free kicks so far out from goal?  That annoyed me.

I felt our midfield was severely lacking with Ljunberg in the center of it.  Too bad we had 3 starters out, but even then we shouldn’t be that bad.

On a side note, I was surprised Marshall did not get a yellow card or cause a confrontation after deliberately “clearing” a ball into the face of his opponent.  Very funny, but not very sportsmanlike.  But hey, if it puts fear in their offense why not…

Talk about playing to the level of your opponent

My guess was that Marshall thought the ball was out and was mad at the call. He kicked it in frustration, and happened to hit the player right in the face.

Or maybe he was just being an ass.

I had just accidentally watched part of The Wedding Singer earlier yesterday, and when I watched the game I kept thinking of that Flock of Seagulls fan.

He cleared it into Rocha’s face I believe so I really don’t care.  Besides Rocha scoring the tying goal, I thought he spent a lot of time playing dirty and simulating when fouled.

And wasn’t the incident where Drew Moor (?) pushed Montero to the ground when he was trying to delay the restart rather similar to the one that got Riley his red card?  To bad we didn’t have this referee last week.

  • NeoGeek

Almost forgot, we definitely deserved the point, but probably not the win.  Not that we didn’t have enough chances to win, we just didn’t finish them.

Zakuani put in so many quality crosses even Alan Gordon could have scored a hat trick. Sounders have nobody who attacks crosses. Defenders are getting into a bad habit of turning the ball over the last 15 minutes of games with long, wrong clearances, even Keller joined in today.
Hats off to Zakuani, Alonso, Hurtado, and Evans for great effort and quality once more.

Did anyone see Rocha’s flop in the box on Montero’s attempted bicycle kick?  Rocha grabbed his face like as if Montero kicked him in the face, but slow motion replay doesn’t show any contact made.

I’m glad the ref’s didn’t bite on that one.  I think overall the refs did a pretty good job this game.
