Sounders FC made their first trip Texas and walked away from Pizza Hut Park witha 1-1 draw against FC Dallas.

Jhon Kennedy Hurtado had a great 25th Birthday Present when he scored his first career MLS goal in the 18th Minute to put Seattle (4-2-3, 15pts) up 1-0. Dallas drew even in the waning seconds of the 1st half.

Seattle had its chances to pull ahead in the 36th minute when Brad Evans missed a lob over Dallas’s keeper Ray Burse which hit the woodwork.

Sebastien LeToux also had a shot to put the Sounders up, but pushed a shot wide left in stoppage time.

“We’re upset and frustrated,” forward Nate Jaqua said. “We did enough to win the game and we didn’t put the game away. We definitely learned something from it.”

“I feel like we left two points on the table,” Soudners FC Sigi Schmid noted. “A point is better than a loss, but we don’t want to be an inchworm just inching along.”

“I thought we were a little disjointed,” Schmid added. “We had a couple new guys playing, but at the end of the day it’s no excuse we should have put the game away in the first half.”

Zakuani was brilliant but poor finishing from Jaqua, Le Toux and Montetro killed the enthusiasm and the game. Sounders need an aggressive, hungry striker.

The last 15 minutes the defenders including Keller turned the ball over with long wayward clearances.

Hats off to Hurtado, Evans, Alonso and Zakauani for another quality performance.

    A few thoughts:

Ljunberg makes this team way better. I heard some pregame talk that Evans would fill in just fine for Ljunberg. We learned there is no Freddie substitute on this team.

We need to see Montero and Letoux up top. Jaqua just can’t kick the ball in the net. Even when its an easy scoring chance. Montero looks like he is ready to play ball again now that he has cleared his head. He still missed an easy chance against Dallas, but looked like he had some fire back.

If Riley hadn’t received that red card against LA, Sounders win vs. Dallas. Ianni held the Dallas player onside. Even though a lot of people thought that he was offside, he was a good three yards onside when the ball was kicked. Riley would not have made that mistake.

Two things about Jaqua: first, I agree with Valentine that he needs a map to figure out where the goal is, except of course for the “shin of God” goal earlier this season.
I liked Fredy yesterday and I blame Jaqua for not providing the off-the-ball movement up front the Fredy needs in order to open up space and create. Fredy gets the ball and is immediately double or triple-teamed w/o another Sounder w/in 15 yards of him. He badly needs help from his mates, Jaqua especially. I don’t think he trusts or likes playing w/ Jaqua.
Soon enough the Freds will be working one-two’s and what not. I just don’t see Jaqua playing a role.
