visual of our playoff chances

chance-of-making-playoffs

one of my favorite websites out there is www.sportsclubsstats.com. it helps those of us, that don’t want to think, understand what our playoff chances are by showing a pretty little graph.

as i eluded to in my earlier post, our win over colorado and LAG’s win over houston helped us out quite a bit last week. as you can see by the line highlighted in red, our chances of making the playoffs sits just under 90% right now.

the grayish line that crosses ours on the downward trend was the Rapids.

without getting all geeky on the analysis of how this prediction model works, it essentially looks at every teams current record, the record of their remaining opponents and home vs away and gives a prediction of a win/loss record for the remainder of the season. i am sure some sports stat head out there will say it is flawed, but it is good enough to demonstrate where we sit. if you want to know more… it is described here

i am not above re-purposing other peoples information for my own use so expect to see this visual again when it makes sense.

I think that I’ll visit this site frequently after wins, and avoid it like the plague after losses.

(Not that we’ll have any of the latter, of course.)  ;-)

That must be NYRB that appears to literally fall off the bottom of the chart.
