Jeff Parke Update

Posted by Mike on July 30, 2009 · Under Jeff Parke · View Comments

Jeff Parke has been waived by the Vancouver Whitecaps. It appears he is going to head back over to Europe as a trialist trying to earn a contract.

Parke’s MLS rights still belong to Sounders FC.

Some folks believe that Parke would ideally be left unprotected in this year’s Expansion Draft and that he would be selected by the Philadelphia Union as a homecoming.

Parke grew up in the Philly suburbs and played four years at Drexel in Center-City Philadelphia.

I’ve not heard anything about Jeff Parke. Anyone have a good place for me to go read up on him really quick?

Parke was a solid defensive starter for NY Red Bulls in 2004- 08.

There are afew knocks against Mr. Parke…
    1. he was suspended 10 games at the end of last year for testing positive for a banned substance.
    2. he wants to play in Europe, but isn’t good enough (or the Euro clubs are affraid of the stigma attached to #1).
    3. he wanted more $$ than the Sounders wanted to pay him; he made $58,737 last year.

F**K this guy! no one turns their backs on the Sounders. Let this guy rot.

Europe? How delusional can someone be?

Here’s a good career path: get cut by a USL-1 team and then expect to make the jump to Europe. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

F**k off and die, jeff parke.

Jeff Parke, your only utility to us is to shield our other players from the expansion draft.  Otherwise you are pond scum and might as well go play with them.

does anyone know what the rules are on the expansion draft,  are we exempt from this seasons darft as a recent expansion team? and how many players can we protect?

  • yamsmos

we are not exempt, and we can protect 11 players. well at least that was what it was last year, if it has changed this year, i haven’t seen.

  • Emil

Yeah but there is also no need to protect players that are inconceivable for other teams to pick.  You dont have to protect your DP.  We probably wont have to protect Keller or Le Toux either just because it would be seen as an ultimate dick move to take them and they probably wouldn’t go along with it, teams left a lot of those sorts of players undefended, like when DC didn’t protect olsen last year.
