‘Over 11,000 tickets sold for US Open Cup final’
Jose over at the Times is reporting as of 1pm PST today, DC has sold “over 11,000 tickets” for the final they ‘just had to have in DC’. Anyone want to guess the average ticket price?
Looking at the Playoff Picture
At the end of MLS’s 24th Week, the Sounders find themselves in an unenviable position of a 52% chance of making the playoffs right now- and trending downward.
The Rapids beat the Dynamo, 1-0, yesterday making 4 teams within 1 point of third place in the West.
Here’s a look at the Western Standings…
Houston, 40pts
LA Galaxy, 38pts
Seattle, 34pts Read more
we watched an MLS match yesterday
as you know, i watched VERY little MLS before this year. the fact that there wasn’t a local team was the major part of that, but i would be lying if i said it didn’t have anything to do with some of the level of play.
this year however, i have been very surprised with what has transpired on the pitch. i think the sounders have played some beautiful footy almost all season. of course it is intermixed with a poor pass here, an immature decision there… but all in all, it is entertaining to watch and not only do i support my local team now, but i have to take back my reserve on the level of play. By splitting points with Toronto (8-8-7) and beating the Reds on April 4th Seattle (8-6-10) earned its 6th series win in its inaugural season.
The Sounders FC, following a shaky first half, finished strong, and nearly took all three points in added time. Read more
Match 24: Sounders vs. Toronto FC Pre-match

Seattle (8-6-9, 33points) is coming off a 1-1 draw with the Western Leaders Dynamo last Sunday in Houston.
Toronto’s 30 points come from their 8-8-6 record and are headed to Seattle following a 2-0 loss at Chivas USA last week.
The positive note to the Sounders is that no one is suspended for yellow-card accumulation or a previous red card and no one else is away for National Team duty. This is only the fifth time that Sigi Schmid has had all of his options. Read more
DC United’s Marketing Effort to get Butts in the Seats for the US Open Cup Final
It all started when Adrian Hanauer noted that he was “skeptical” of the USSF process and of DC United’s US Open Cup Final bid. He additionally noted that the Sounders would have sold out Qwest if Seattle was awarded the US Open Cup Final.
And with that, the Guantlet was laid.
This prompted a pointed reply from DC United head man Kevin Payne. With the “he said / she said” aside, the onus was now on DC to fill the seats of RFK for the September 2nd Final… Or at least draw more than the 8,200 8,212 they did for the 2008 US Open Cup Final and hopefully more than the 16,272 that they’re averaging in 2009.
They are trying. Here are some of the gimmicks & campaigns that the marketing folks at DC United have come up with Read more
season ticket deposits for next year
on the council member call right now, and i can relay to you that there are 5,000 season deposits already taken for next year. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY ticket renewals from the existing season ticket holders.
all i can say is……WOW
What are you doing to watch the US Open Cup Final?
Wow, one week from the first final match for Sounders FC. Are you headed to DC to chear on our boys, or will you find a pub locally and watch the 10,000 fans that DC can’t seem to come up with? Or will you be sitting at work catching the game online or via the radio?
I’m still waiting to hear how ticket sales are going for them – with tickets starting at $12! With this string of 10 games in 31 days, they’re running 0-2-1, pulling a draw with the Galaxy at home. Tonight they’re playing Toluca in the CCL, and with the Fire in on Saturday, they should be nice and exhausted for the Final.
In case you missed it, Le Toux won the Player of the Round for the semi-finals when we played Houston! Need I point out that Le Toux has been the leading goalscorer the last two years, with 5 goals in ’07 and ’08. Le Toux has 3 goals so far, 2 against Salt Lake for the play in (do these count?) and the PK that won the game against Kansas City.

Petition for Commemorative Kit
The discussion and vote on the All Blue Kits from a week ago shows that people are interested in what our Sounders are wearing.
Joel at Emerald Pitch has put together his creative knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm in creating an all-white retro kit to honor the past players and coaches of the NASL & USL, as well as the current MLS Sounders.
View the entire all-white kit mockup here on Emerald Pitch and if you like the idea and concept then make sure to head over to the online petition to honor 35 years of Soccer in Seattle.
What do you think of Joel’s design?
