MLS Playoff Race

Right now Sounders FC has a 77.2% chance of making the MLS Playoffs (per Sports Club Stats). Sitting in 5th Place, they have Chivas USA (with 2 games in hand) nipping at their Rave Green toes and Colorado and DC in spitting distance.

Here is a look at the Playoff Picture- there’s a whole lot of parity in spots 5-11…

For those wondering how they come up with the Odds/Numbers, here is their explanation.

The remaining games are messed up. Sounders next game is @NE (played Chivas on Saturday). And how is Chivas going to play themselves?

    Mike Reply:

Yep- totally messed up the Cut& Paste on that one. Thanks for pointing it out.

paul, I think that means Chicago….

  • eighmee

nevermind..i guess it was fixed by the time i saw it.
    hahah :)

I still can’t believe we lost to NE at home. That one hurt.

We have a favorable last two matches though. We owe KC one and FCD flat-out sucks. If we can’t beat those two teams then we don’t deserve a spot. Of course, we owe NE as well.

Not sure if it’s realistic to beat Columbus at their home. I’m thinking a feasible scenario is W-T-W-W.

Just realized I used T for tie instead of D for draw. Whatev, you get it.

Also, LA has it much tougher than we do, playing the three best teams (two on the road) and then SJ, who may suck, but it’s a big rivalry match so records go out the window.

Most true (long time) Galaxy supporters will tell you that SJ is their true rival, not Chivas. Would be great to leap-frog LA.

in record, dallas sucks, but once they have put up two 6 spots this year, once against a team ahead of us…. we can not take them for granted.

I agree with Joe, KC and Dallas got a little bit of payback coming to the Middle of America. The East is keeping me up at night. Sigi’s first game back in Columbus and a New England team looking for a W at Home. Before we can get the W’s, we need to get back to our basics. We are a BETTER team on paper then every final game (I think we have more talent top to bottom then The Crew), whether or not we play like it is yet to be determined.  When the Sounders have their backs against the wall, we always seem to come out faster and harder and play longer and more spread out. That’s why I think that our chances of losing are minimal, but the chances of a tie are too high. Single point games on the road will only keep us in pace with the pack and not put us ahead. THe other MLS teams know that playing a playoff game in Seattle will be hostile place to play so the teams ahead of us are thinking they dont want to come here. Heres to the boys coming back with 12 points

My prediction (as if it matters) – D-L-W-W:  and 45 points gets us in.  How electric would Qwest be if we went in needing 3 points to get to the playoffs and we got a game-winner from Ljungberg (he hasn’t scored in awhile) in the 90th minute?

Electric??  If I had to wait until the 90th minute of the last match to know if we’re in the playoffs, I think the only electricity would be a defib machine on my heart after I had a heart attack watching!!!!!

Everybody seems to be writing off FC Dallas.  Did any of you see their LA game?   Total world domination.

Dallas did some serious building in the transfer window and they are not the pushovers they were earlier.  And we haven’t exactly been tearing it up at home.  I really hope we tear up the teams before then and aren’t relying on an easy win against Dallas to make the playoffs.

And by “everybody” I of course meant “everybody except yamsmos.”  ;-)

You certainly can’t take anyone for granted in this league, but at a certain point (especially at home) I need our  boys to show me that they can step up and say, “we’re better than you” to the opposition, and prove it.

It’s a swagger that no Seattle team has had for some time. I want to see our team be outside the typical Seattle sports franchise mentality.
