Qwest and the ever growing attendance
Wow, so aside from the match itself, last night was great and well attended. I’ve seen a few photos from the upper decks and I would like to hear from those up there if they enjoyed the atmosphere or not. With the demand for tickets next year, it is a real possibility that those seats will be used going forward. Read more
Pat Onstad is a Douchebag
Pat Onstad on his yellow card…
“To be honest I just gave him a super light bump and he went down like he normally does. He rolled around a few times. If it would have been Nate Jaqua, he would have brushed his shoulder like a fly was buzzing him. That is Fredy, and as soon as I bumped him I told myself that was the wrong guy to bump. I got what I deserved and the referee thought he embellished it a little bit.”
First, watch Onstad push Fredy Montero in the back on the preceding play- Ljungberg’s Corner Kick at the 1:35 mark.
Then, skip to the 2:00 mark… Yep Mr Ostad- “a super light bump” where you can clearly see a coil in your legs, leading to a slight lunge, and lowering of your right shoulder. Maybe you watched to much hockey growing up in Canada.
Sounders, Dynamo end in Scoreless Draw in Playoff #1

Nate jaqua is evidence of a rough match (AP)
Sounders FC played in their first MLS Playoff game on Thursday night and the two toughest defenses in the league ended in a 0-0 tie.
Seattle had their chances, namely from Patrick Ianni who was a game time addition to the Starting XI in place of Tyrone Marshall. Ianni connected on a header from a Freddie Ljungberg corner kick in the 14th minute- it had beat goalkeeper Pat Onstad but was cleared off the line by a Dynamo defender. Later in the43rd minute off of a Ljungberg freekick, Ianni’s header hit the crossbar.
The game was a rough one and the tone was set early on. In the 14th minute a scrum ensued in front of the Houston Net. Read more
Sounders vs. Houston- Post Game Quotes
Sounders FC Head Coach Sigi Schmid
On Pat Onstad yellow card… “I haven’t seen the replay. You’d have to ask Salazar. I’m confused. A lot of calls I was confused about. In on a breakaway, calls a foul, and calls the ball back and doesn’t card the guy. It’s confusing.”
On physical game… “The game was very physical and it was allowed to be played that way. If it’s that way in Houston, then we’ll be ready for that. It takes away from guys who can plan and make an impact on the game.”
On game… “Getting a draw on the road is good for them, but we’ve been a good road team. I look at it as we’re 0-0 at halftime. We’ll see how the game gets interpreted by the referee down there and maybe it will change it.” Read more
fun and frustrating…

Osvaldo Alonso battles Ricardo Clark (AP)
famous last words…. but i am going to keep it short.
i had fun tonight. against my stomachs best efforts, i actually had fun tonight. we are the sounders and we made the playoffs in our first year. somehow, i was able to sit back and actually take it in. as much as i want us to go to the next round and the final, i don’t want to forget this time.
ok, until now…. what the hell was that ref on about. honestly, i have no idea how much onstad did, or didn’t punch one of our players, but it was very iffy indeed. anyone got more info than that? but the one that really steams me is mr righty back that took an elbow to ljungberg in about the 80th. how that wasn’t a second yellow? i seriously don’t know. it seemed dead on to me. What was that?
End of story – ref is going to get fired – rumor is that espn has video of Onstad punching Montero.
Anyone able to link to a photo of the tifo display in the northend? I want to know how we looked!

It’s amazing how much easier it is to do things when you’re at a real computer
Yes, there was no punch, but when you’re going forward like a running / full back and doing a body check, it’s a red. Too many fouls away from the play went unpunished, and Houston came here to play like thugs. Good for tv ratings? Maybe, but it’s dangerous to the players on the pitch, and I wouldn’t want a kid to grow up watching that and thinking it was how to play football!
2:35pm today
that was the precise time that my stomach officially told me that i am very nervous and about to get really sick about tonight. this feeling won’t go away until 9pm tonight… and if we lose, possibly even only draw, well it will last well into the weekend.
you see, i have a problem. when watching teams i love, i get a medium case of what nick hornby had in his book “fever pitch”. i don’t enjoy the game, well not until we are 2-0 to the good, and even then i am thinking… oh crap 2-1 is a very dangerous score if we concede a goal, and then i get nervous again. so pretty much, i just staysick, frustrated and nervous.
for my epl team, i often get up at 4am to watch them live. i can’t sleep knowing that it is sitting there on the DVR. and then, if i can’t watch the live showing due to other serious commitments i fast forward it only stopping for the goals.
yes, it is a problem i know.
