USSF Disagrees: Onstad NOT a Douchebag

US Soccer issued their opinions on last week’s matches and the Pat Onstad chest bumping incident with Fredy Montero is addressed:

The referee makes the correct misconduct decision by cautioning both players for unsporting behavior. The goalkeeper’s actions are not excessive force and he does not make “contact above the shoulder.” The goalkeeper merely makes strong chest-to-chest contact with the opponent. The manner in which the contact was made and the fact that the chest-to-chest contact is in no way endangering the safety of the opponent, makes the contact reckless and, thus, a cautionable offense.

Following the “punish uniformly” guideline, the referee is correct in cautioning the attacker for unsporting behavior for his actions in embellishing the contact as well as for his actions in holding defender on the original cross which initiated the conflict.

BS!!  I guess this means it’s open season on going after guys….  and it’s completely cool to come out of the scuffle by faking a punch to the face.

  • Mat

He got angry with embellishment, then proceeded to embellish contact.  While I can understand that the referee wasn’t seeing everything at once, Onstad is a douche, and a huge hypocrite.

The USSF has to protect their bread and butter.  Saying that their Ref made a bad call would be pointing back at them for their lack of quality officials.  I find it ironic that they didn’t mention the shove from Onstad previous the “chest bump” or Onstad’s embelishment after the incident of being hit in the face.  With all that has gone on, it will be interesting to watch how tomorrows match will play out.  I figure it is going to get rough.  Lets see how the officiating pans out.  I am not going to hold my breathe… I will most likely suffocate.

I also lost  respect for Onstad.  He should be setting a good example of a veteran player.  Remember Keller getting raked across his right eye and cheek by a DC United player going up for the ball and the ref did not call it, in the US Open Cup.  Keller let him know, but did not retaliate.

    thanks USSF…. i stand corrected.

  • Gary B.

The USSF have never disagreed with any call reviewed by them this year.  If we are to make assumptions based on their reviews, MLS referees are the best in the world and should all be working in South Africa come 2010.

In short, the reviewers are a bunch of tools and Onstad is a douchebag, but he Pat it all evens out in the end…

Gary and others have said it all. USSF is a disgrace to the game, and not just at the MLS level.

And the End of Year Award for “Best Use of the Word Douchebag” goes to…

    Yamsmos and Mike of GoSounders.com!

Well done, boys.  You have given me something to aspire to.  ;-)

So I guess now our guys can go to Houston and take runs at the other players and vice-versa. Should make for great soccer. Stupid MLS. I seriously doubt that anyone at the top of MLS watches soccer at any level regularly.

Translation:  The U.S.S.F are an even bigger bunch of douchebags than Onstad.

This blog and its contributors are better than calling an opposing player names.  It degrades the overall product.

    Avocat Reply:

Seriously?  Like Onstad’s hypocritical and unsporting behavior isn’t detrimental to the “overall product”?   Apart from the, um, rules, he’s got 6 inches and 50 pounds on Montero.  Bully.
