Sebastien LeToux Taken by Philly

letouxSounders FC’s first player, Sebastien LeToux, has been selected by the Philadelphia Union from Sounders FC as a part of Philly’s Expansion Draft.

In the conference call, Head Coach Peter Nowack noted, that he “he was on the USL Sounder. I watched Le Toux, and was very, very impressed”. Nowack added that “He can play multiple positions. And he can score some goals.”

“With expansion comes the unfortunate consequence that you’re likely going to lose someone,” said Sigi Schmid, Sounders FC head coach. “Seba is a quality player, and it’s understandable that Philadelphia valued his abilities and brought him aboard.

“We’re sad to see him go,” added Schmid, “but we wish him the best with this opportunity in Philadelphia.”

Le Toux appeared in 28 games for Sounders FC, starting 15 of them. He logged 1457 minutes and scored a goal (against the LA Galaxy) and 3 assists.

In all competitions, Sebastien played in 35 matches and scored 4 goals and added 7 assists.

The 6’0″ Forward from France was purchased from the USL-1 Sounders in May of 2008. He was the MVP of USL-1 in 2007 as he scored 24 goals for the USL club over two seasons.

Many Sounders fans are going to miss Seba’s energy and allegiance to the Seattle fans.

See ya on March 25th Seba!

This deserves two posts. What a punch to the gut. Wasn’t prepared mentally to hear Seba’s name called.

  • Steve

Our open cup team is hurting.  The french connection will be missed.

  • soundersfcfanboy

    So bummed.

  • Brad B

NOOO!,  not LeToux.  He is an outstanding player.  He gives 120% everytime he plays, all the time.  He is one of my favorites and an example of sportsmanship that others should follow.

Seba- you’re a Sounder ’till you die.

    You’ll be missed.
  • Ben R

Let’s hope we don’t face the Union in the US Open Cup.

  • Matt

As a fan of the team I’m very sad to see him go.  He’s a great player for the fans.  From a winning games perspective this probably works out well for Seattle.  Seba has a very high salary for what he offered this year so this frees the team up to possibly find some new blood.

Also might be a good move for Seba.  He might get quality playing time and at a position he’s more comfortable with.

  • jt

All I want to hear from Adrian right now is that we’ll get him back!

We have trade bait, and draft picks.  My only fear is that based on the comments by Nowack, he might not be willing.

  • Brian

I was going through the 5 stages of grief for Riley.  Now Riley isn’t going away I just can’t do it again for LeToux

  • Stanwood

Sad to see Seba go.  He’s easily the Sounder who appreciates the fan support the most.  His industry, heart, and character will be sorely missed.  Set-pieces too!

I think Sigi misused Seba this season and had he seen more minutes in his natural position, he’d be on the protected list.

Let’s hope he finds his way back in the future.  Were I in charge, there would always be a home for him on the squad.

  • Devon

He was a great guy and a great tie to the old team, but he also made over $100k last year and most certainly didn’t earn it. I’ll miss him, but it doesn’t hurt us as much as people might think.

  • Joe

I don’t get the selection along w/ about 8 others they made. Roger had better stats, James more minutes and experience. The only other player they chose that I even recognize is Moreno. What a strange draft.

  • Craig

Wait- Sounder at Heart said there was only a 1% chance LeToux would be taken…

  • James Walley

I just wish that, while Philly was having a brain-cramp on their draft, they’d gone the whole way and taken Vagenas off our hands instead.

  • greta

    fuck. fuck fuck fuck.

  • yamsmos

man i got this one all wrong…. le toux is a good but not great (yet) mls player, but he is a GREAT part of our squad. i his addition to the community and locker room will be HUGELY missed.

with all due respect to le toux… i can’t see how they took him. especially at that salary.

  • tim

this isnt a bad thing.  the salary room can add another guy that can finish.  I’m glad we didnt lose Riley, a starter.

  • gstommylee

and i suspect we will be messing around with the lineup again next season unless Riley can learn to control his temper.
