Trio Waived by Sounders FC

The Seattle Sounders FC today waived midfielder Michael Fucito and defenders Evan Brown, and Lamar Neagle.

Brown, 22, and Fucito, 23, were both selected by Seattle in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. Brown was chosen 16th overall from Wake Forest and Fucito was taken with the 46th pick overall from Harvard. Neagle, 22 and a Federal Way native, joined Seattle as a rookie free agent from Nevada-Las Vegas on June 10.

None of the players, all rookies, saw action during the MLS regular season or playoffs. Brown started in the May 26 U.S. Open Play-In game, a 1-0 victory over Colorado. Brown, Neagle and Fucito, who was on the disabled list since signing July 3, each saw playing time as substitutes in friendlies against both Chelsea and Barcelona.

boy, i guess my theory of brown being a ready replacement for riley wasn’t at all true.

i know nothing about footy today.

  • gstommylee

Brown being 2nd in depth meaning we were weak in that area.

  • budbud

Why do we cut guys at the OPENING of the trade window?

    I must be missing something.

Don Ruiz from Sounder Insider explained it like this:

“Player contracts are technically signed with the league. And the league wants to pick up the options only on players who have a reasonable chance of actually making the team — and to reinforce that, the league penalizes teams that cut players whose options have been picked up. Therefore, it’s in the club/league’s interest to release these players and then invite them to camp later than it is to pick up their option and possibly cut them later.”

in theory i get why the mls was started, the way it was, with the league owning the contracts…. they didn’t want NASL part duex…

but could they make the rules more complicated please? F me, it seems like there is a new one every week. and the fact that the sounders FO thought that they didn’t have to protect FL10 on goes to show that it isn’t just us fans that find it hard to know all these caveates.

What is sounder at Heart going to do now that his man-crush Fucito is gone? :o

    Dave Clark Reply:

I’ll just keep writing solid commentary on the players with the club. Likely to include Fucito next season, as well.
