Sounders Release on Ljungberg No Show

As we posted on our Twitter page, Freddie Ljungberg was not at the opening day of Sounders FC Training Camp.

Following practice, the Front Office released this…

We have been in constant dialogue with Freddie Ljungberg’s representatives. He is in Europe but we hope to have him join our training soon. We cannot comment on speculation nor discuss any interest on the part of other clubs. Freddie remains under contract to Sounders FC.

This can not be good news. The highest paid player on the roster does not show up, makes the sounders and MLS look weak. No excuse! This is the problem with DP in my opinion.

For all we know Freddie is in town and keeping a low profile.  Pressing as he did on his blog how the CBA will effect what he does is helpful – kinda.  I hope he’s having fun snowboarding – if only Ma Nature would let it snow here a bit more :(

Still, we need our players–especially the core of the team–in these early training weeks to refine their team play.

to sad. it’s like watching vader turn to the dark side before our very own eyes.

Freddie isn’t gonna show up in camp until the CBA is agreed to.  Once it is, he’ll play for the Sounders like his contract says, and it’ll be a gravy year.  Obviously a player of his calibur keeps his options open, to drive his price up and base offers at for next year when he may go play in Europe.  Press means more money, it’s plain and simple.

Melodramatic posts aside, I think Fredy is gonna breakout this year so I’m glad to see him bonding the first day in camp.

  • N

Yeah, its no big deal. Sigi will sort it out.

  • Phil

I’m also very excited to see Fredy break out this year. He’s figured out how defensive the MLS plays and I think that first year he was scoping it out. Now that hes figured it out, he’s ready to get that golden boot!

  • Steve

He will be here.  I mean if there is no CBA there is no play.  He will honor it if there is a CBA.  I think he is a pretty classy guy.  I don’t necessarily blame him for sitting back.  I wouldn’t necessarily be wanting to fly around the world to just fly back if they go bad.  I say that, but I also agree with Keller.  Its an odd situation.
