what said fred?

i am late to the game… while everyone else has had their chance to weigh in on absent freddie, i have been doing this thing that is called “work”. my boss thinks that asking for 12 things every 14 minutes, while changing 5 of the things just asked for 14 minutes ago each time, is an acceptable way to work. well it isn’t and i am going to do something about it damnit… i am going to do nothing for right now, and then maybe something different later… but whatever i do is going to be AWESOME!!!!!!! that will show him.

anyway, like i said… i haven’t had a chance to weigh in. and by “weigh in”, i mean, say what other people have already said, and then formulate my opinion which is similar to theirs.

long followers of my posts will know that i live in this fantasy world where i believe freddies sincerity. i am not 100%not sure why… maybe it is the high cheekbones that are hypnotizing me, but when freddie says that he loves seattle and will not leave before his contract, i believe him.

but then we hear this  stuff where it looks like he has turned down an offer from livorno b/c he wanted to move to a bigger club? and then he doesn’t show up to the first day of training?

what am i to make of that? well, anyone that pays attention to european soccer media will know that 99% of transfer “talk” is crap… and i think i am being generous. most of it is agent generated b/c they are slime and only get paid on large transfers, and when they are sleeping, the rest is formulated by crap journalists that need to fill inches.

is it possible that livorno approached freddies agent? sure, and it likely did happen. is it possible that freddie doesn’t understand this CBA stuff and is a bit afraid of not playing this year… sure. did freddie talk to his agent and say something like… “crap, we may not play next year? i need to play, the sounders need to know the CBA needs to be finalized”?   hell if i know… but very possible.

and from all that we get an eager agent who “opens a few doors” and “keeps options open” for his client. he then “communicates” ahem…*cough* with SSFC FO that freddie will not be back until Feb 1, conveniently 1 day after the CBA “should” close.

so as agents tend to do, they play the ass and sleaze part while admonishing their client from anything wrong. i don’t think freddie is fully in the right here,  but i do think he felt the need to keep his options open. not showing up on the first day of training, however, clearly does not help his rep with those of you that aren’t his biggest fans. i know if montero did the same thing, i would have a few choice words, so i think freddie does deserve some of the crap he is getting.

but after that is done, if he is fully committed and continues his form of the end of last season, we will all forget this very quickly.

finally… i thought me very clever when i came up with the “what said fred” headline… but i have this sneaky feeling that i came up with it b/c someone already used it. i am not trying to plagiarize and i did go and look at a bunch of the blogs i follow and can’t find it. so if i unknowingly stole it… credit and apologies to who already wrote it up. i feel like i am back in college… accidentally taking credit.
