Looking at the Sounders Schedule

Yep, the 2010 Seattle Sounders FC MLS League Schedule was announced yesterday. Now we have some time to look at some of the intricacies of what Sigi Schmid has called a “very balance schedule”.

Only 4 games are during the day with a start at 1p or sooner. Only 4 games are during the week.

At this point, it is hard to determine “difficult” games. At the end of April the Sounders have 3 games in 8 days, with the second two on the road at Dallas and at Toronto on Thursday-Sunday.

Additionally the Sounders will host Colorado on July 25th and then play in their CONCACAF Champion’s League match two days later.

Of the 15 home league games, 10 will occur on the same day as a Mariners home game. Let’s take a look at those…

April 17: Sounders take on KC at 12p, the M’s play at 610

May 1st: Sounders kickoff at 730p against Columbus. The M’s have a 1210p first pitch.

May 8th: Sounders FC will host a David Beckham and Landon Donovan-less LA Galaxy at 1p, and then the M’s play the Angels at 6p.

May 22: Sounders kickoff with San Jose at 12p, the M’s play at 7p.

June 5th: Seattle hosts New England at 730p. The M’s have a 110p start.

July 11, July 25, August 8, August 28, the Sounders will host Dallas, Colorado, Houston, and Chicago with start times between 7 & 8. The M’s will have 110p first pitches on those same days. (The Mariners will be facing the large crowd drawing Yankees on 7/11 and Red Sox on 7/25).

Other Conflicts???

May 22nd’s game with San Jose (a 12p kickoff) coincides with the UEFA Champions’ League Final.

And all of this is being looked at without any knowledge of US Open Cup matches or additional CCL games and International Friendlies.
