Original Release…

RENTON, Wash. – The Seattle Sounders FC announced today details for the club’s inaugural “Community Shield” match, which will take place on Thursday, March 11 at 6 p.m. on the Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field. The Sounders FC will face the Portland Timbers of the USL in the pre-season training match.

General Admission tickets for the event will go on sale Wednesday, February 10, at 10 a.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth (6-17). Children under the age of six are free. Tickets will be available by calling 800-745-3000, all Ticketmaster outlets and the Qwest Field Box Office.

Proceeds from the match will benefit the team’s four community partners: Boys and Girls Club of Washington State, Save the Children, Seattle SCORES and Washington Youth Soccer. Following the match the teams will sign autographs from the field.

“The ‘Community Shield’ match will be a great opportunity for our fans to watch the team and give back to the community before the regular season begins on March 25,” said Sounders FC general manager Adrian Hanauer.

Following in the steps of other MLS teams, the model for the event is based upon the “Charity or Community Shield” matches in England, where they are a long standing tradition featuring the champions of the FA Premier League against the winners of the FA Cup with all proceeds going to charity.

As previously announced, Seattle opens preseason play on Wednesday in Casa Grande, Ariz. against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Sounders FC will play three matches during the La Manga Cup II in Spain, from February 18 through February 26. The final preseason game is on March 19 at the Colorado Rapids.

Seattle hosts Philadelphia Union to open the MLS season March 25 before a national television audience on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.

Man I always forget, and get upset by how much they charge in “fees and taxes”!  Bought 3 adult and 2 kids, so $40 . . . total was 63.10!  If it ALL went to charity I wouldn’t care a bit, but sucks that ticketmaster does that for charity events too.

  • James

Got five adult tickets for my first Sounders match! Can’t wait to see the Timbers get their arse kicked (you know, for the kids)!

  • MIKE

Janette, I hear ya. 2 tickets comes out at $31.28.   >:o

What we do for our Sounders!

  • Janette

Agreed=).  If they aren’t going to cap this for tickets, people should have time to head down to the office and at least save on some of the fees.  Hope we get a HUGE turnout!!  Wow, GA for the whole stadium . . . bet we’ll have a huge amount showing up as the doors open to get their spots.  I’ll be one of them!!

  • Cameron

    Got me 6 go Sounders!

  • E.T.

How many tickets are they making available? I would rather go buy them in person to avoid the crapload of fees. But I don’t want it to sell out by tonight!

  • yamsmos

i wouldn’t worry about a sellout. i think they will “rope off sections” depending on how many they sell. but they will likely go up to 35k.

if they sell out by tonight, i will not have a ticket either ;)

  • Mark

Agreed… I am getting them at the office to aviod RacketMaster or TicketMeister.  I would rather all the money go to charity instead of paying the middle man.  I don’t expect this game to get even close to selling out.

  • LJ

I’d say a 70% mark up to the reported $10 ticket for fees/service charges is really disappointing.  My $10 ticket came to $17 plus change.

  • randle

No fees at the box office! 20 or so of us at 10am. And the talk was all about us vs. them in pdx last year and 2011.

  • d2bernhard

How many tickets sold so far? I got 10 today at the BO at the oh so sweet price of face value — no fees. The best way to chop some timber is with manpower.

  • sassyfrass

i bought tickets around 3pm and i asked… the ticket rep said “thousands” but that is a big range.

  • Brian

Here I got Portland new logo for you.

  • Janette

Hey anyone heard what the count is for #’s of tickets sold?
