According to Argentina’s El Sol Quilmes young Colombian striker Miguel Montaño is heading to Seattle to play for Sounders FC as posted on the FutbolMLS.com website.

The 18-year old Montaño was led to Seattle by Fredy Montero’s agent, Alejandro Taraciuk- an MLS “consultant”.

PM Update: Tonight Prost America quotes Seattle Sounders GM Adrian Hanauer:

We are very excited to bring Miguel to Seattle. Miguel has blazing speed, makes decisive runs, he has good technique and strikes the ball well with both feet. At the same time, he is only 18 years old, and we will bring him along slowly.  We need to find out how he fits in with our group, and hopefully over time, he can contribute.

  • Jarrod Smith’s Hair

    His hair isn’t as good as mine, but he is fast. I think this tells why the Sounders didn’t give up an Int’l slot for Luis Gil. They were working on this kid who is project himself.

    I’m excited and trust Adrian and Chris.

    The fact that he has an agent and he was going to trial in the Netherlands, shows that he was being looked at.  It looks like he was being groomed for the first division and got swooped up before.  This remains to be seen, but great scouting find, if he turns out to be good.  I like the interest in young, upcoming players.

    Potential Montero replacement if he leaves?  I love this columbian striker pipeline we are starting.  Scouting in the lower Americas is fantastic!

  • Mark

    Cocaine and soccer players are now our two biggest imports from Colombia!  Hopefully the soccer players will be as successful as the cocaine has been…

    “Miguel has blazing speed, makes decisive runs, he has good technique and strikes the ball well with both feet.”

    Translation: He’s not Montero.

    BTW, stupid racist comment Mark.

    @bud

    typical overly sensitive seattle PC bullshit.  there was zero mention of race in his post.

    You must be confused about the term “racist”.  I was simply making a joke relating the fact that Columbia is the biggest supplier of the addictive drug Cocaine to the fact that we will have a good amount of Colombians on our team.

    In other words… learn how to take a joke?

    BTW, stupid comment bud.

    It’s Colombia. Not ColUmbia.
