No goal line technology for now
The up and down of how to officiate in this time of high tech tools is currently on an up swing. Ok, so that’s a personal opinion, but I have to agree that the amount of money and changes that the game would suffer isn’t worth the outcome. The decision isn’t by MLS, but I would not expect us to lead changes in the world game.Spending about $500k per stadium to determine if the ball crosses the line is a little bit of overkill. Yes, you may get a goal in your favor but you can just as quickly have a goal count against you. It is also an all or nothing type of technology, where you would have to have it at all stadiums. The current talk is having 2 more officials on the pitch for goal line calls, in addition to adding more responsibility to the fourth official. Read more over at Fifa.com.
I personally like the idea of having two more flags on the pitch. It seems that the amount of the field that the two linesmen have to cover is crazy, and some of the faster players get calls going against them due to angle of view. I like the amount of venting that a lot of these ideas get, all the way to test implementations. I’m typing this while watching Mexican soccer, watched the first official pace out the distance for a free kick and then spray paint a line on the pitch to limit the wandering of the wall.
