Sounders vs. Portland NOT to be Televised

With a tip of the hat to ProstAmerica, he noticed that KONG-6 will not be airing Thursday’s Charity Shield Match between Sounders FC and the Portland Timbers as we originally noted.

In its place will be a 2-hour show, Seattle Sounders FC 2010 Preseason Preview.

    NoooooooooooOoooooooo!!!!!!

  • beowuff

Wow. Thankfully, I’ll be at the game! Otherwise, I’d be pissed!

  • Steve

That is freakin annoying.  Why not?  They should put it on FSN, but that would make too much sense….

  • yamsmos

i was actually surprised that they were going to show it… it would minimize the gate receipts as a result, and given that this is for charity, i would think they would want to get as many as possible.

btw, the latest calculation i have is that there will be 16k there… nice turnout for a “practice” match.

  • Mark

Yah, there is no reason to televise a pre-season match.  We don’t want to give Portland more exposure than they deserve.

Also, for those who live near Seattle and are complaining: Pay $10 and come to the game!

For those who can’t make it: sorry… there is always the Sounders live blog.

  • DaveS

Lack of televised coverage isn’t necessarily a problem… what’s annoying the hell out of people is the fact that they are airing a special about the Sounders AS THE GAME IS OCCURRING.  That’s just stupid, any way you look at it.

  • Ben

Speaking if television – does anybody know when Seattle comcast is getting FSCHD?

  • jt

I want to know why they would announce it, then pull it.  I know the Huskies are playing in the Pac10 tournament at the same time, but still!

Looking at it again, I think Prost is misreading this.  I can’t see how they can produce a 2 hour special on the 2010 season.  It’s listed as “Seattle Sounders FC 2010 Preseason Preview” so knowing that’s when a “preseason” game is, it would makse sense.  SoundersFC.com still lists the game on KONG, so I’m going to still set the tivo to record.

so what i have heard about this thing is that it is sort of a “magazine” type of show. yes, there will be a little game action, sprinkled in with sideline interviews, season reviews and previews.

so there may be some on field video of the game, but it will be sparse.

i for one will not know as i will be testing out if the beer is still cold and expensive at qwest.

  • manumerda

this is a good thing. This is a charity match. A TV broadcast would complicate where the money goes and how much.

  • d2bernhard

Tickets are available at the Box Office QWest Field NO FEES.
$5 kids and $10 for normal people.

At least the Huskies Pac10 game got moved to 8:40!!!!  :D
