Sounders FC opened up their sophomore campaign with a 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Union on Thursday night. In front of 36,241 fans in Rave Green, Seattle spoiled the start of the Union’s first ever match.
The game started off on a rough foot as Philly’s Danny Califf took down Fredy Montero in the first 45 seconds to earn a yellow card. In the 12th minute, the Sounders got on the board when Montero and Steve Zakuani fed Brad Evans who slipped the ball past Chris Seitz for the first goal of the 2010 MLS Season.
Montero continued his magic right before the intermission, with a Goal of the Week candidate as he placed a diving header off of an Osvaldo Alonso volley.
