Pat Noonan Signs with Sounders FC

As we noted earlier, MLS Veteran Pat Noonan is in training camp with Sounders FC.

According to Don Ruiz of the News Tribune, the club has signed the 29-year-old forward who has appeared 12 times for the US Men’s National Team.

Noonan, who can “deliver pinpoint crosses with his right foot”, graduated from Indiana in 2002 and spent 6 seasons with the New England Revolution before playing in Columbus and Colorado, who released him last week.

The 6-Foot Striker has scored 40 career MLS goals in 152 matches.

There has been no official word from the club.

Aaaand Levesque goes back to the bench.

    Parke gone now?

Posting this question from another forum – “What’s unclear to me is if rosters are now limited and locked.  I know that they called this off while the CBA was still unsettled, but does this signing mean we will waive a current player to make roster room for Noonan?  What about when Nkufo joins in July and/or when Jaqua comes off IR?”

these are all great questions with regards to how many people we can have.  I hope somebody has the answers and soon.

I think Noonan is a great signing adding depth right now when we need it…however, I don’t like the idea if it is at the expense of Parke, who I think could be a great contributor for us.

No need to waive. I have a feeling Sigi will be playing the system and have signed players who are “injured” for MLS matches but ok for USOC and CCL games.

will he play midfield or up top with montero

  • bud

This signing plus the news that Jaqua is going in for a ‘second opinion’ tells me that Nate is a LONG way from coming back.

Sigi will play around with that. He likes having Montero and Ljungberg up front anyway and Noonan will probably be on the wing, where he plays better. I just think that there will be a problem when Nfuko comes in. Nfuko’s superior play to Jaqua will probably get him the starting spot, so that probably puts Jaqua on the bench. But then Noonan will also be on the bench. Those two along with Levesque give us 3 players as subs as they have no room in the starting XI. Though, I could see Noonan staying if Ljungberg leaves next year.

  • Green Apple

I think he will play on the right side of Midfield in place of Roger Levesque.

I think some folks have a way over-inflated sense of Noonan’s value. Since his knee injury in the 2007-08 season, he has bounced around from club to club, never finding a home. The problem is that he just isn’t as fast as he once was. The guy used to have surprising quickness and that allowed him to get off his cross. He’s still got a great cross and he’s a very good passer at pace. But I’m gonna be waaaay pissed if this is in lieu of getting Parke signed, who would be some VERY important depth in a season crammed full of games and a very thin c-back situation.

Who’s it going to be again? I am confused… ;)
