sunday morning reaction
have you ever heard of a house that doesn’t have a dvr or even at least a vcr? well it exists, and it just to happens to be my parents. when my dad announced a family dinner at 6 i thought…………….. ahhhhhhhhhhhhh crap. but 6 it was. i ate fast without being obvious, and made stellar conversation to make up for my soon to be absent body.
i couldn’t even watch the replay in full due to other family commitments later that night. yes, it was going out for drinks with my sister, but “family commitments makes it sound a) more official and harder to break and b) much less of an alchy.
so sorry for the delayed response…
“And Then the Miracle Occurs!” Or not. (Let the Blame Game Begin.)
So. My brother is a physicist. He used to have a comic on his wall that had two scientists in front of a blackboard which was covered with rows and rows of mathematical calculations — up to the final step. Which was:
“AND THEN THE MIRACLE OCCURS!”
I didn’t realize until yesterday exactly how much I’ve been counting on that equation to get us into the playoffs this year.
Yesterday, for the first time, I realized that the necessary miracle may not actually occur. (Yes, for the first time. Because hope springs eternal and these are my boys and I have survived so, so long on simple blind faith.) But we’ve dug too big a hole, and the Western Conference is just too good. There is a very solid chance that the 2010 Sounders will not make the playoffs, and even the mighty, water-walking Nkufo will not be able to fill the fissures in the team.
Let the finger-pointing begin.
I’m starting to hear “Fire Adrian” murmurings around the internets. Which is understandable. He (and I recognize I’m using “Adrian” symbolically for all the decisions of the FO, the buck stopping with him and all that) took a calculated risk in not making any signings in the off-season of people who could come in and make an immediate impact. He assumed the cracks we were seeing in the last half of the season last year wouldn’t turn into crevasses before Nkufo could arrive.
He was wrong.

Sounders fall to the Rapids 1-0
From the front office…
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – The Seattle Sounders FC was unable to earn a result on the road as it lost 1-0 to the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 18,116 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Sounders FC (3-5-3, 12 points) remains tied for sixth in the Western Conference while the Rapids (5-3-1, 16 points) temporarily move into a three-way tie for third place.
Are we rebuilding the fortress in “Electricity” bricks?
After a long, LONG, drought, Sounders FC finally found where to place their left or right foot – driving the ball on goal. There was more building up for strikes, and strikes taken. It’s almost like the team figured out that one little thing that had been haunting them so far this season. With that, certain bloggers are just now coming around to the new kit – helped by the impression that Adrian Hanauer will pay any fines associated with wearing the new kit during MLS play. After Montero represented JKH on the pitch wearing his number, I’m almost at the point where I’d get one myself. Keller actually wore a USMNT kit back in the day that was about the same colors. Parke and Hurtado, and a “Hi” to GoSounders Readers
So I get back into the country this week after two weeks away, and the first thing I do is say, “Hey! Yamsmos! What did I miss with Sounders?”
And he says, “Oh, just that Hurtado‘s out for the season and we signed Jeff Parke.”
Which is an exchange kind of like: “Mom? Anything happen when I was at camp?” And she says, “Not a thing, honey. Well, except that I’ve left your father and moved in with your Uncle Bob instead.”
(And you don’t even like Uncle Bob.)
Not that I don’t like Jeff Parke. Exactly. (You know. The same Jeff Parke who dithered about signing last year until after we’d brought in Hurtado and Tyrone Marshall and didn’t need him? And who reportedly turned down a six-figure salary earlier this year because he thought he could do better? And who waxed rhapsodic before the first RBNY game about the joys of playing for the freaking Red Bulls? Yeah. That Jeff Parke.)
But from all of the wisdom that comes from watching the guy play in parts of a preseason match or two, I’m thinking that despite everything he seems like a solid option on the field. And other than the one miscommunication with Keller in the Boca match, he looked good there too. So I guess I’m cautiously hopeful. But before I’m fully won over, he’s gonna have to prove to me his desire to bleed rave green and blue. Because at the moment I’m still skeptical — not about talent, but about desire. And specifically about desire to play here. Read more
friday junk and stuff
as we head into the long weekend, i apologize if the posts are a little light. mike is in europe, jt is already passed out from drinking too much tequila and i will be out of town with not as much access to the interwebtubes.
but wait…. what’s this???? this just in, we have a new family member within the gosounders world. you may remember her for her instant classic “fred and fred go camping” post or you may just think she is the girl who posts all the inappropriate freddie pics. please please please welcome laurie, the former blogger over at theoffside.
we are very excited to give an outlet for her creativity and maternal yearning for the boys in rave green. laurie is going to float in and out and just post on whatever she wants. sometimes it may be regular, sometimes not. kind of like my grandpa. errr… ok, that was a little weird. but seriously, the only rule we have imposed on here is to keep the naked man pics to a minimum, or at least label them as such in the header so you lot don’t get in trouble at work. welcome laurie.
ok, lets get into what we have, which isn’t much. Read more

Sigi Quotes on Boca
Sigi Schmid – Sounders FC Head Coach
(On the game …) “Obviously it was nice to get goals. It’s been a long time and we didn’t know what it felt like anymore. It was a great feeling because our fans have been so supportive and so behind us. For us to reward them, I guess they all get free haircuts as a result of that, so that’s a good thing. I thought at times we obviously played some good soccer. The effort of the guys was very good. It was great to see (Michael) Seamon Read more

we get a free haircut
ever since this promotion started, my buddies and i had a deal… as soon as we actually score 3, we actually have to go and get a haircut. so very soon, i will be donning a great clips special. and while i am very glad we won, i really hoped it was in the league we had to cash in on this deal. oh well. i predicted that we would win 4-0 tonight and i wasn’t far off. sigh.
i really am not going to get into the nitty gritty b/c well, it is actually kind of hard to make too much from this game when you have a meaningless game, with mostly second stringer sounders against a second string boca team. so it is hard to analyze this game and say how much this really matters…
HOWEVER, having said all that…
the individual performance from the players cannot be understated.
