Jhon Kennedy Hurtado placed on IR

For those wondering about Hurtado after the game on Saturday.  From the team:

RENTON, WASH. – The Seattle Sounders FC announced today that central defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado has been placed on injured reserve due to a torn left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Hurtado suffered the injury in stoppage time near midfield while closing down Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski, who was aiming for a try at Seattle’s open net. Behind 1-0, goalkeeper Kasey Keller had come forward on a 93rd minute corner kick.

Hurtado is required to miss the next six games of the season. He is eligible to return to league play for the July 15 game at D.C. United.

Hurtado, 26, has started and played the full 90 minutes in all nine appearances this season; his second in MLS. He did not play at Toronto FC. Last season for Seattle, Hurtado started and played the full 90 minutes in 28 of 29 appearances with one goal and one assist. He was named an MLS All-Star and was a finalist for Defender of the Year.

this sucks… glad we have parke waiting in the winds, but that doesn’t hide the fact that we are thin right now

  • m

Well……a drastic change at the back can’t hurt…on the postive side….

  • Steve

    Parke to the rescue.

This also leaves room for Nate to come back off IR.  Odd timing on that one.

I completely missed him getting hurt though.

    WE’RE F***ED.

  • jt

It could be worse.  The World Cup break will give him more time – which is the only way this will be resolved.  Having Parke to throw in there will be a good sink or swim.

Yes it helps with the roster bits, and I expect to see Jaqua playing a little in the Boca game, with that determining what happens for Saturday.  The injury report is getting worse and worse!

    Definitely snakebitten.

Time to yell at the GM we need a new defender parke won’t cut it we need someone with experience

  • DaveS

    Time to go get Ballack.

  • gstommylee

Parke has 5 years of MLS experience.  PLus if we add another defender it’s goiing to cost us more on the cap. We got plently of able bodies that can be centerbacks.

  • Alex y

I’d rather get Marquez of Mexico

  • gstommylee

I doubt Seattle will bring in another CB given where we basically got ALOT of depth at the CB spot.

  • Ghanji

Not to mention Parke could play the CDM spot with Ianni moving back to the center back slot.

  • Andrew

While losing Hurtado sucks, I’m confident our back line will transition smoothly.  Ianni always slots in well there and then we have Parke, and Graham waiting in the wings (should Graham stay healthy).  I just hope Alonso and/or Vaganas is ready before someone else makes the spot there own so that Ianni can drop back and get a good solid look.  I’ve always thought that Ianni/Hurtado is our best center back pairing (barring a look at Graham/Hurtado).  In my opinion, the book is still out on Parke, despite his experience.

ACL injuries are really common in athletes of many sports.  ALthough most people generally understand the ACL, its function and how it gets injured, check out a family physician’s discussion of ACL injuries.  http://drpullen.com/2010/04/29/why-our-acl-is-so-important/
