Seattle scored 3 first half goals on Saturday Night to defeat New England. It was the Sounders first win at Qwest Field since April 17th.

Sounders FC (4-5-3, 15 pts) got on the scoreboard in the 5th minute when Leo Gonzalez scored his first MLS goal on a beautiful left-footed volley after collecting a pass from Steve Zakuani. The shot deftly bent around Revolution goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth to the back post and started the momentum for the Rave Green.

19 minutes later, Fredy Montero‘s fast throw-in to Brad Evans set up a cross to Zakuani, who launched a blast from the 15 yards out that snuck under the cross bar to put Sounders FC up 2-0. It was a play that Sounders announcer, Arlo White,  described as “Champagne Football”.

Pat Noonan almost scored his first MLS goal for the Sounders when he hit the woodwork in the 31st minute after evading two New England defenders.

Montero added his name to the scorer’s sheet in the 42nd minute when he shot the ball past Shuttleworth.
