UPDATED CORRECTION. DATES SWITCHED. 1140a The Sounders Preliminary Round Schedule in the CONCACAF Champions League has been set. We learned a few weeks ago that Seattle will be facing El Salvador’s Metapán.

Today, the schedule for the First and Second legs was announced.
The Rave Green will host Metapán on Wednesday, July 28th. Kickoff is slated for 7p PT from Qwest Field.

The second leg will be at Metapán. Kickoff at 7p on Tuesday, August 3rd.

The winners (on aggregate) will advance to the Group Stage, which will commence August 17-19.

The top two teams in each group will qualify for the knockout quarterfinals, set for February and March of 2011.

Apologies for the initial error.

When will they announce if the match will be at qwest or starfire?

  • Mark

If my memory serves me correctly; I think they have to play at Qwest due to CCL stadium requirements.

  • PV

and if at Qwest – I presume this would be our C ticket??

  • MIKE

Yep Josh Mayers shared with us last month that it will be at Qwest.

  • MIKE

    …I’m holding out for Inter…  8-)

  • Dan

The press release on the CONCACAF website says Seattle is hosting the First Leg on July 28th and Metapan is hosting the second leg. http://www.concacafchampions.com/page/CL/NewsDetail/0,,12856~2065022,00.html

was there a press release on this?  I haven’t seen anything…  Or do you just have ninja sources?

  • Tacoma

I sure hope this is incorrect.  I spoke with Chris Henderson on Sunday and asked him if the match in El Salvador would be the 1st week of August and he assured me that it would.

  • MIKE

Yes, you are correct. I misread.

  • MIKE

    Yep, I made a mistake.

  • MIKE

    Both

  • Paul

I would like to know where the info came from as well… the Mariners have an evening games in the first week of August so we’ve been assuming that the game would be here the preceding week.

  • MIKE

As I said, I misread. Apologies abound.

  • Tacoma

    Whew!!!!

I bought my ticket last night, was lining up my shots for this evening and scouting good travel books.  My stomache really sunk there for a minute.

  • MIKE

Sorry Tacoma… I posted it between meetings and was posting & reading from the phone.  :-[

  • yamsmos

    mike, i think you made a mistake….  ;)

  • Paul

Whew is right, we have been doing some travel planning for this game… :)

And since I’m mentioning travel planning, here’s a plug and reminder for folks- ECS does planning for every Sounders away game and El Salvador is no exception.  In fact, it’s probably even more important due to the high crime areas of El Salvador.

We are going to arrange tickets and transportation to/from Metapan/San Salvador, and also likely a group hotel the evening of the game in the Metapan area.

Check out the latest plans and follow the page for updates:

  • yamsmos

  • m

  • overmars

chots are scheduled for next week, ill go buy the plane tickets tonight

  • Bill Johnson

Great now, Man U has a chance

  • MIKE

    I suck.

  • DaveS

I’m holding out for USA-Spain. LOL

  • Alex y

This is good news we need to score like 3 goals at home before we go over to central america

  • Anthony

Do they use the away goals rule in CONCACAF Champions League?

  • MIKE

    Yes.

#1 Tie Breaker for the Preliminary Round: “Greater aggregate number of away goals scored in regulation time in the two matches (excluding any goals scored in overtime).”
