Friday Junk and Stuff

Posted by yamsmos on July 9, 2010 · Under Commentary, World Cup · View Comments

happy friday everyone… is anyone looking to the weekend more than me? i have 4 days off, a birthday,  the ballard seafood festival, wc final, sounders at qwest and lots of happy hours planned. if you can out do that, well have fun!

of course there is the big game on sunday, and by big game of course i mean seattle vs dallas. the world will be watching if we can pull out of our slump as we try to crawl back into this thing called “the playoffs”. yes bud, it is possible. RSL was below 20% in october last year and then they landed backwards into the playoffs, and we know what happened after that.

will it be hard? yes. is it unlikely? yes. but it is possible. so while the front office tries to fix what is broken in this team, let’s support them as best we can b/c a few W’s will brighten our outlook.

there is another game on sunday i guess, in the world cup final. while south american teams caused quite the stir by having 4 of the final 8, they petered out and we have two european teams left. the great thing for most neutrals is that the number 7, will finally be increased to the number 8. that is, the number of countries that have ever won a world cup. i enjoy that. if you don’t know how to pick, well then go with the octopus. he hasn’t made a wrong pick yet.

for me personally, i want the dutch for three reasons. one, in my pre world cup picks i said i thought they would win, so there are some bragging rights there i guess. but 2, i had money on them pre tournament at 10:1 so i wouldn’t mind getting paid either. and finally, and likely most importantly, how can you route against a country, a people, a civilization who invented the greatest of all great things… the dutch oven.

what else… well there is this game C thing. we still don’t know who it will be. it WAS going to be real madrid… i have heard it from a few people that would know… but then they cancelled last minute b/c christiano ronaldo was worried that 2 days in seattle would ruin his base tan… and to him i say this….

enjoy the weather, enjoy the dutch victory and enjoy the sounders putting 8 past dallas.

why not play the reserves again, at least they know how to play together!

  • Anthony

It looks like from how the reserve players have been playing; there will be some changes. Keller and the back four are most likely set. The only possible change (and this is a stretch) is Parke maybe, but he looks comfortable where he is and I doubt he’s going to be moved. I am almost sure Mike Seamon has to make the first team at some point. He just brings a new dimension to our game. Making him a starter seems much easier with Alonso and Evans out with injuries. The wing seems set as well, which is sad for Montano since he’s been playing so well. I think up top seems jumbled up. We all know Nfuko is gonna start, and we assumed Montero would be his partner, but Jaqua has been playing like a possessed man. Yeah, everyone can talk about how his recent goals were very simple but I can’t remember the last time we scored a heading goal. That’s not what’s impressed me. I have been a Jaqua hater pretty much since I saw him first touch the ball with the Sounders. He had a horrid touch, incredibly bad movement, distribution always went off the mark, and he seemed to be very off balance when he dribbled. The last to Open Cup games he’s been impressing. He’s spreading the ball around, having an almost instant control when the ball gets to him, makes smart runs and puts himself into good positions when he has the ball. He’s not playing any world-class soccer by any means, but it’s sure better than Montero right now. So there has to be at least two changes: Center midfield and up top. That’s just my two cents.

I agree with u or just put montano and jaqua in they have played great lately

  • MIKE

If Spain beats the Netherlands, the only undefeated team at World Cup 2010 will be New Zealand.

  • Gee

Go Nederland, at least we got a new a campion! but in all seriousness, our reserves do play better together as a team, may not be the best talent but hey
either is our starters in all a reaility.
