Estrada Placed on Injured Reserve

The Sounders’ 2009 First Round Draft Pick, David Estrada, has been placed on the Injured Reserved “due to a right hamstring strain and right first toe sprain.”

He can return to MLS action against the Revolution on September 4th when Seattle plays at New England.

Do we have an open spot for Nkufo or is this for him?  If we have a spot for him, then this would be interesting

Yup. Hard to believe that our PR-minded FO would allow NYRB to one up us on the DP front, so I’m full of hope…. with a dash of reality.

It isn’t like Estrada has been getting any playing time.  I know it’s too early to tell, but among our young players (Seamon, Montano, Fucito, and Estrada) he seems to be the guy Sigi’s been the least willing to give playing time to.

Does anyone know what management’s take on Estrada is?

I’m sad to hear Estrada was put on the IR.  He’s had injury problems before in college (fractured foot I believe).  For his sake, I hope the injury is not serious.

I haven’t been impressed the limited times I’ve seen him play.  He clearly has some speed and skill.  However, he made bad decisions and seemed a little overwhelmed with the level of competition and the atmosphere.

He probably needs more playing time to mature.  Ideally, he would be able to get some playing time in friendly matches and as a late reserve in Open Cup and CCL matches.

Blaise has been activated by seattle as DP #2 and will be eliable to play against DC.
