Update on Freddie Ljungberg

Here’s a quick update about Freddie’s status…

  • Freddie Ljungberg is no longer training with the Sounders, but rather on his own. According to Adrian Hanauer, “he is training by himself, getting healthy, getting fit. We agreed together that it made some sense to keep him away from the club as he is exploring other options. I don’t think there’s a secret that that’s happening. We just thought it was best to keep this team focused right here on winning on Sunday, let Freddie explore options. As that process plays out, we will take things as they come to us. Again, assuming something does or doesn’t happen in the next week or few days or two weeks, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.”
  • Freddie has dumped Swedish agent Claes Elefalk and is now represented by Phil Smith, who is director of the First Artist cooporation. He also represents Andrei Arshavin and Emmanuel Adebayor.
  • The Sounders are allowing Ljungberg to work out his options “in a collaborative effort” with the club. It appears one MLS side and one international club is interested in the Swede’s services.

just sayin i stopped caring a long time ago about FL. hopefully we can all move on with the situation and we can learn and get better with out him.  it just sucks the way he went about the whole thing and really he could go jump in a river and i wouldnt miss a beat.

The sooner he’s gone the better for the team and the fans

  • Anthony

And Ljungberg is officially another David Beckham.

How do u guys feel about hosting the allstar game next year I think it would be a good idea we should start a group to bring it here next year

None of us know “how he went about it” or even if this was his own decision. All indications are that he liked it here and even wanted a contract extension. How is this remotely comparable to Beckham, based on what little we know?

  • bud

Correct, but a team doesn’t sideline a player who has a fake injury and then go public with an announcement that he ‘is seeking other opportunities’ without said player doing at least a few things wrong in the process.

I find people’s reaction to Freddie interesting. The guy was our first DP, he had a great season last year and helped get us the Open Cup. It’s not like he’s gone to the press and spoken crap about the club and publically called out the team to move him. He also didn’t publically force his team to loan him to an European club (so nothing like Beckham at all)
Sure, he hasn’t had a great season this year, but then the team hasn’t either. Instead of the hate maybe we should be thankful for the good times

Anthony- Be careful what you say! I compared Ljungberg to Beckham a long time ago and got crucified on this board. I wish I had been wrong but I was proven correct. He doesn’t give much effort because he really doesn’t care about the Sounders, he cares about himself.

  • DaveS

That doesn’t justify someone who isn’t on the team complaining about “how he went about it”.
