Seattle has a win and a +1 goal differential after the home leg of the CONCACAF Champions League play-in match against Metapan.

After playing through a scoreless 60 minutes, Fredy Montero came on as a 60th minute substitute for Nate Jaqua, and seconds later gave Sounders FC a goal that would be the game-winner.

Montero’s goal against the El Salvador club was a 40-yd blast that was mishandled by the Metapan goalkeeper Misael Alfaro in front of 17,228 at Qwest Field.

The two clubs will play the Metapan leg next Tuesday, August 3rd at Estadio Jorge Calero Suarez in San Salvador. The winner of this series will advance to the Group Stage of CCL and be placed Monterrey, Saprissa and the winner of the Tauro vs. Marathon Play-in.

Sounders looked great, they should go through. Even with a lot of reserves playing they out played that team in blue, Who?, go Sounders.

    Is the game over???

Keller was never challenged. Hope they take the second leg as easy as this one but I am betting Metapan brings a bit more to that game in front of their home crowd.  Great pace on the game but another score would have been nice.

Curious if a red would have resulted in a player not being available on the second leg. So much I don’t know about the rules for this.

WAt time did the game end??

Metapan was dispicable… i understand that they are trying to keep the goal differential low and play for the big win at home, but Jesus Christ.

Not to mention just how terrible the FSC coverage of Concacaf is… those announcers are horrible. i muted the TV and listened to Arlo White on the 8 second delay… even the camera operators were horrible…. i really love watching a player rolling on the ground and then watching the screen go from shot to shot panning to catch some action… c’mon FSC… you can do better.

I think the Metapan players thought they were on Telemundo with all the acting.

Regardless, not a bad showing from our side; thought we lacked the runs forward to finish.

Hard to piss about going to San Salvadore +1 with no goals allowed.

    C’mon You Sounders!

    FOUR SECOND MONTERO!

Good game overall but fsc sucks at games we needed at least 2 goals tonight but at least we got the win

  • bud

Hope it is enough.  Would love to see them play the A squad to hold the lead.

    But they won’t.

    (PS:  Fuck you Vagenas)

  • Steve

Looks like the next game is at 7 our time?  Weird.  Listening to Arlo is always good.  He always has interesting things to say.  I thought it was interesting how they will treat this as El Salvador vs the US and they can’t play it at home and have to play 5 hours away or something.

  • Ben

Metapan played for the tie. They never sent more than 3 players forward and only in counter situations.  Should be fun to see them spread out and play to score.

We got lucky to score a goal. Our midfield play, while dominant, often looked sloppy and without a plan. We could hold the ball, but didn’t have many shots to show for it. Nyassi continues to have fantastic games, yet can’t score a goal to save his life.

  • Gee

anybody else think Sigi is getting a little too predictable with his subbing?

  • bud

    Nyassi has the ‘shit touch’.

  • blaksflsdaf

    Nope. It was spot on.
