Sounders and RSL Draw

Posted by Mike on September 10, 2010 · Under Real Salt Lake, Results · View Comments

Two of the hottest teams in MLS met on Thursday night and walked away in a scoreless draw.

In front of 36,078, Seattle and Real Salt Lake traded jabs, but neither could land a scoring punch.

RSL’s (12-4-8, 44pts) best chance came in the 31st minute when Robbie Findley stepped to the penalty spot after Jeff Parke was called for a foul in the box. After the mind games between Findley and Sounder goalkeeper Kasey Keller ended, the Sounder netminder blocked the shot that was low and to his right.

It was the first PK save for the Sounders in MLS competition.

Seattle outshot RSL 10-7 and held the advantage on corner kicks (6-2).

The sides had finished level at a 2-2 draw in Real Salt Lake’s 2010 home opener on April 10.

It was the 29th consecutive sellout of MLS matches at Qwest for Sounders FC.

I’m sorry, but I hope everyone else can see that we sorely missed Nkufo last night.  Jaqua puts in the work, but his first touch is slightly worse than abysmal and he is too slow to regroup when the ball gets away from him.  He should be strictly a substitute.

Every two seconds I found myself screaming…dammit Jaqua!!!

    Also, Nyassi should be starting.

How about Fernandez and Montero up front?

  • Ivy

Jaqua is just painful to watch.

  • Atilio

Yap. Justin is right, fernandez is not playing his best position on the field; I think he is more efective at front. Jaqua just have a bad game, but Nkufo doesn’t do any better

  • Ken

Didn’t see much of the match so I can’t comment on Nkufo. However, I totally disagree about Nyassi. He was on for ten minutes, and in that time he managed to kill at least two attacking moves by taking the ball after a passing move and running around the field looking to make a breakthrough on his own instead of keeping the ball moving. Either he’s still not seasoned enough, or his style doesn’t fit with the Sounders, or something else, but Seattle looked less like scoring with him on the field.

  • Steve

He goes too far down too and gets trapped in the corner. He is fast and can be great, but starter…. only if someone is out and we need a starter.

speed on the sides and creativity up the middle=

                 Alvaro
        zak             Nyassi
                 Alonso

This is the best midfield option, and why is Sigi still subbing out our DP fernandez deserves a full 90 he is not old.

  • Jeromy

I don’t think Jaqua had much of a bad game, he doesn’t hold the ball well up front, and doesn’t have blinding speed for the break away’s. I comepletely disagree with with atilio Nkufo can hold the ball upfront and draw 2 defenders to free up montero and zakuani which Jaqua has never been able to do. Jaqua rocks and had an off game but Nkufo could had been more of a threat up front on that Salt lake defense.

  • Kirk

Jaqua always has an off game playing in mls games. He is second tier. Let’s hope Nkufo is back soon. Thanks to Keller for a point in this game. Go Sounders

I love Nyassi and am amazed at his speed.  Nyassi just returned from playing in Africa and was probably tired at the game.  I am surprised he even played.  Nyassi puts pressure on the other team with his speed.

  • Bella

I totally agree about N’Kufo!!  It makes me wonder if the field turf at Qwest is going to be a problem going forward for N’Kufo’s 35 year old knees.

  • bud

Nyassi has the ‘shit’ touch.  Our two DPs can’t play a full 90 (when they make the lineup).
