Charity Shield Match with Colorado Canceled

Due to severe winter weather forecasts predicted for Denver and its surrounding areas, the Colorado Rapids and Seattle Sounders FC have cancelled their Charity Shield match that had previously been scheduled for this Friday, March 19 at 7 pm at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado.

James Riley & The Sounders defeated Portland last summer
Sounders FC host the USL’s Portland Timbers on Thursday for the Pacific Northwest edition of the Community Shield. In an anticipated matchup, over 13,000 tickets have been sold. [Buy Tickets] Proceeds from the benefit will be directed to Boys and Girls Club of Washington State, Seattle SCORES, Soccer Saves and Washington Youth Soccer.
Seattle and Portland have been rivals since 1975 when both clubs were members of the NASL. The Sounders and the Timbers also faced each other for 8 seasons when both squads were members of USL-1. Read more
Steve Zakuani Launches Non-Profit
Sounders second-year striker, Steve Zakuani, has launched a non-proft organization, Kingdom Hope.

there have been questions floating about the game, and i will add color to what i know.
- will this game will be televised?… not at all. it is only a practice game, no matter how important it is to all of us. the fact is, a practice game just doesn’t draw ratings and for the most part, everyone that cares will already be there.
- is this part of our season tickets? nope
- why a practice game at qwest, and not the USOC or likely the CCL? Read more
Sounders to Appear in Charity Match with Rapids
The Colorado Rapids announced today that they will be participating in a Charity Match with Sounders FC the week before First Kick.
The “Charity Shield” will be held at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Friday, March 19th. Proceeds from the match will be forwarded to UNICEF earmarked for relief in Haiti.
Great Jobs Sounders Fans
Yesterday, the fans of Sounders FC showed that their is more to life than soccer as two benefits generated over $14,000 for Haiti Relief.
Gorilla FC hosted an event at George & Dragon in Fremont with Sounders Steve Zakuani, James Riley, & Patrick Ianni and raised over $12,500 for Doctors Without Borders.
Meanwhile, at the Atlantic Crossing, the Emerald City Supporters along with the coaching staff and the recent draft picks raised $2,000 to be sent to the American Red Cross.
