sounders win at home… about freaking time
i am up way early on my way to NYC tomorrow so i have to keep this on short tip.
sounders played their ass off, and there is no fault for effort anywhere on this team. it was the full 90 and even though i was ready to have a hear attack in the last ten minutes… as i was not ready to watch another game gifted away… credit to the boys who did the job that we were so used to last year.
i didn’t get to see replays of either zakuani’s goals… the first seemed a little sloppy (no complaints) and the second a result of a nice johnny legendriley cross. or do i have those mixed up. either way… both were a result of player taking his chances by being in the righ place at the right time. and let’s be honest… most of your goals should come from that. you can’t rely on crazy skill and wicked shooting for most goals, or you will lose more than you win. you should rely on people taking their chances and that is what he did.
some thoughts on the overall performance… and then i am off to bed. Read more
will freddie ever play in a sounders shirt again?
of course it is possible, but it doesn’t take much interpretation to believe that the real answer is a big fat “NOPE” and that is kind of sad toe me.
today, in case you haven’t heard, a Q&A with chris henderson pretty much confirmed what we all thought was going on with freddie. there is a lot there, but clearly when you read this,
Does he have any future here at all? “I think it’s day to day…”
it doesn’t look good. Read more
fun game to watch… ref decided to f it up
first of all. to all you referee apologists out there… yes i know the rules. yes i know that boss took down sam-i-am-an-ass. yes, by thebook he was last man. so yes a red card was, by the book warranted… but there is this other part of the game where the referee has some subjective interpretation of the game. ref’s and their bosses talk about it all the time. they have to consider the gravity of the game, the people playing and call the game accordingly.
so here we have celtic, on a preseason tour, with pretty much the only goal of getting in shape against some half way decent opposition. and on the other hand you have the sounders and their fans, enjoying a sunday out with their family and friends against an international opponent.
so sam-i-am-an-ass was taken down in the box, but he still managed to score…. what do you do??? Read more
the rumors are flying… send me an angel?
it is hard to know how much truth lies in each blog post/twitter rumor/im that i receive, and there isn’t a great way to know… so for now, we will just agree that they lie somewhere between 0% and 100% true.
this thursday, the only thing we know will happen, is that something will definitely happen. the latest, a la the ecs, is that ljunberg for new yorks angel is on the table. in fact, they say it quite matter of factly “We just heard that it’s going to be Ljungberg for Juan Pablo Angel…”
just for S and G’s, what should we think of this? well, it makes sense actually. freddie isn’t happy, he isn’t playing well, the coach is getting a little irritated with him… and maybe the most important piece of the puzzle is there is only 4 months left on his contract. the sounders have a lot of young midfield talent that has been showing its worth of late, so while i wouldn’t go as far as to say that freddie is expendable, you can say that his position is already back filled. quick abuse of authority – i need a ticket
i’ll make this quick. anyone got an extra, free, ticket to the celtic game this weekend? i need to bring my daughter and am hoping to pay the very good price of free. of course if you can sell it, do, but if you have one going unused, i would be greatful.
ok, back to your regular scheduled program
great effort…. really lame result
gonna keep it short, i am doing my best to not let that result get me down (although it is). i just cracked a nice bottle of wine which i may finish by myself. it is my birthday and i will wine if i want to.
fredy montero…..absolutely, 100%, hands down the best game i have ever seen him play. of course he got the goal, but that isn’t even the reason why. he hustled his ass off all game, won almost everything that he went for, and was a pain in the ass to the defenders all game. hats of montero. play like that every game, and i will be very very very sad to ever see you go.
i remember shea being a major cock the last time we played them, and he has managed to out cock himself. montano did deserve the red. from where i sat, i saw his elbow fly. even though it was a reaction, he can’t do that…. but it doesn’t excuse the pigment free cock that shea well and truly is. he dove in twice illegally on montano, and montano reacted. my buddy sitting with me said in the first half that shea was going to get someone to react… and he was right. that was exactly what he was trying to do. Friday Junk and Stuff
happy friday everyone… is anyone looking to the weekend more than me? i have 4 days off, a birthday, the ballard seafood festival, wc final, sounders at qwest and lots of happy hours planned. if you can out do that, well have fun!
of course there is the big game on sunday, and by big game of course i mean seattle vs dallas. the world will be watching if we can pull out of our slump as we try to crawl back into this thing called “the playoffs”. yes bud, it is possible. RSL was below 20% in october last year and then they landed backwards into the playoffs, and we know what happened after that. Read more
WC still a nice break
i am in denial about the sounders in two different ways. first, there is a part of my brain, that honestly doesn’t think that these games during the world cup are actually happening. technically, in latin, it is called the “icantseeyou thereforeis udontexistus”. second, when i actually get past that, i look at what RSL did last year, and i still hope that we can figure this thing out enough to get into the playoffs. it is the same feeling of hope that my mom still has for the mariners right now. i sit and laugh at her when she says things like that, so feel free to laugh at me.
but, i actually can’t believe we are this bad, and i do hold out hope for a nice string of wins against lesser opposition, like DC and Philly for example…. ahem.
i have been notably absent the last week, and this is mostly down to me not wanting to keep writing the same things over and over about how we only have a Plan A. it worked pretty good last year, and now it isn’t working so much. sigi, if you can turn around columbus, you can turn around us. figure it out please. wc quarters – final 8 teams are set
Holland v Brazil, Uruguay v US Ghana, Argentina v Germany, Paraguay v Spain
right away you see four south american teams in the 1/4’s. and how crazy it is that their could realistically be all four south american teams in the final 4.
i have actually done a poor job on my predictions this year, and that goes down mostly to me picking with my heart. i wanted the US to win. i wanted england to win. i wanted chile to win. but you could argue that they were all underdogs… well maybe not the US, but it is no surprise that ghana outpaced/muscled them.
