Sounders Down DC, 1-0
Many Sounders fans were excited today with the hopes of seeing Blaise Nkufo for the first time in Rave Green. In the waning minutes of regulation their spirits were crushed when Sigi Schmid used Seattle’s third substitute with Sanna Nyassi.
However, 1 minute later, Roger Levesque energized Sounders fans across the coast when he headed home the game’s lone goal at the 89th minute off a beautiful cross from Fredy Montero. Read more

Sounders vs. DC United Preview
Sounders FC head to the east coast on a short week as they take on DC United on Thursday night from RFK Stadium.
Seattle is 1-4-2 on the road and look to return to winning ways in an effort of snapping a 4-match winless streak and losing 5 of the last 7 MLS matches (and a 3-match league away skid).
It’s too much for one man to solve, but many Sounders fans are hoping the official addition of Swiss International, Blaise Nkufo, will assist in the change of fortunes. Read more
Sounders Lose to DC
Sounders went down 0-3 and used a late game flury of goals by James Riley in the 90th minute and Fredy Montero in the 91st to make the game interesting. But DC held on to win 3-2 in front of 36,146 fans at Qwest Field.

DC United Comes to Town
Seattle looks to replicate last Saturday’s Result at Qwest as they host DC United in the last MLS match before the World Cup break. Kickoff is slated for 7p from Qwest Field. [Tickets]
Against New England, the Sounders (4-5-3, 15pts) upped their total home goal total by 75% when Leo Gonzalez, Steve Zakuani, and Fredy Montero all found the back of the net for the Rave Green. The win gave Sigi Schmid’s club its first win at Qwest Field since April 17th.
Josh Wicks gets kicked when down
USSF has suspended DC ‘keeper Wicks for 5 games for his stomp on Montero in the USOC final. Other than he’s already done for the MLS season due to injury, and that DC United seems to be falling apart from all sides, it’s good to see justice served. From the Washington Post:

Sounders Get Needed Win in 2-1 Defeat of DC United

Steve Zakuani put the Sounders up early
Sounders FC got a much needed win in the MLS Table as they defeated DC United 2-1 at RFK Stadium on Saturday.
Seattle (9-6-10, 37pts) got on the board first, and early. Rookie Steve Zakuani put the men in Rave Green up in the 4th minute as he slid a shot through DC United goalkeeper Josh Wicks.
DC leveled the playing field in the 54th minute on a goal by Rodney Wallace.
The game winning goal for the Seattle squad came in the 84th minute as Fredy Montero settled a James Riley entry pass and made a quick turn to shoot and find the upper corner on the near post.
The Sounders will host Chivas USA nect weekend at Qwest Field. Kickoff is slated for 12p. Read more
Match 25: DC United Match Preview
Seattle heads back to the Capital City as they take on DC United in MLS League play on Saturday evening.
The Sounders (8-6-10, 34) return to action after a 10-day break when they last played at United in the US Open Cup Final, a match that The Rave Green won 2-1 to claim the club’s first trophy.
Since then, DC (8-5-12, 36) has played two matches; a 2-2 draw with FC Dallas and Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Kansas City- a win that saw United leapfrog Seattle in the MLS Table. Read more
Sounders FC Wins to Become US Open Cup Champions
1 Season. 1 Trophy.
The Sounders accomplished that on Wednesday when they defeated DC United on thr road 2-1 to win the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
Despite not having 3 of their 4 usual central defenders, Seattle used an attack that had multiple chances of scoring in the first half.
Steve Zakuani, Fredy Montero, Sebastien LeToux, and Freddie Ljungberg all had shots on frame that were turned away by United ‘keeper, Josh Wicks.
Seattle’s luck turned in the 67th when Montero put away a rebound off of a Ljungberg shot. In the moments following the goal, DC’s Wicks received a red card for intentionally stomping on the Colombian striker. Read more
