The available international slots for Sounders FC are now more readily available. In addition to Fredy Montero and Steve Zakuani gaining Green Card by United States Immigration, Sounder Forward Blaise Nkufo and Defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado have now received the permanent resident status as well. By attaining permanent resident status, the players will not carry the International designation on the MLS or US Open Cup roster.

For those wondering about Hurtado after the game on Saturday. From the team:

RENTON, WASH. – The Seattle Sounders FC announced today that central defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado has been placed on injured reserve due to a torn left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Hurtado suffered the injury in stoppage time near midfield while closing down Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski, who was aiming for a try at Seattle’s open net. Behind 1-0, goalkeeper Kasey Keller had come forward on a 93rd minute corner kick.

Hurtado is required to miss the next six games of the season. He is eligible to return to league play for the July 15 game at D.C. United.

Hurtado, 26, has started and played the full 90 minutes in all nine appearances this season; his second in MLS. He did not play at Toronto FC. Last season for Seattle, Hurtado started and played the full 90 minutes in 28 of 29 appearances with one goal and one assist. He was named an MLS All-Star and was a finalist for Defender of the Year.

The Seattle Sounders FC announced today that it has completed the transfer of defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, extended the contract of midfielder Brad Evans and re-signed defender Tyson Wahl.

Each player is entering their second year with the Sounders FC. Per club and Major League Soccer policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

“Jhon Kennedy was a very strong performer for us during our first season and with his permanent transfer we are able to assure our nucleus remains intact,” said general manager Adrian Hanauer. “Together with our agreements with Brad and Tyson, this further prepares us to go forward in establishing Sounders FC as a championship contender within MLS and the region.”

In 2009 Hurtado, 25, had played for Seattle while on loan from Colombia’s Deportivo Cali. His rights have now been permanently acquired by Sounders FC. Hurtado was a finalist for MLS Defender of the Year and a member of the MLS All-Star team in 2009. He appeared in 27 games, starting 26, in Seattle’s central defense.

Now entering his fourth MLS season, Evans, 24, scored three goals and added two assists for the Sounders FC in 2009. He started 25 matches and was a substitute in two others. Evans earned his first three U.S. international caps during the 2009 Gold Cup, and he has been called in for the USA-El Salvador friendly to be played on February 24 in Tampa.

Wahl, 25, started nine times and in appeared in 12 League matches altogether last year. He is entering his fifth MLS season.

Jhon Kennedy Hurtado Joins the Team in Buenos Aires

Jhon Kennedy Hurtado the newly signed Colombian Central Defender, joined the team this morning in Buenos Aires. He practiced with the squad during Sigi Schmid’s morning training session.
