Fredy Montero’s last goal in competitive play was an important one. It was the eventual game winning goal in the US Open Cup semifinal against Chivas USA on September 1st. That goal, however, ended a scorching streak through the summer months of June, July, and August that saw Montero account for 8 goals and 6 assists in 11 MLS matches.

But that last goal was 216 days ago.

Since that goal, the Sounders have played in 19 competitive matches (14 MLS, 4 Champions League, and the USOC Final) and have a 7-9-3 record in those games with Montero appearing in all but four.

The articles abound the interwebs that note the Sounders’ depth to make a run in the MLS Season, the CONCACAF Champions League, and the US Open Cup and the results show that Seattle is capable of earning points without Montero scoring.

However, the fact of the matter is that Fredy Montero hasn’t scored in1248 minutes across 15 games.

After undergoing wrist surgery last week, Montero missed Saturday’s draw with San Jose. On Monday, Sigi Schmid noted that Fredy was heading back to the surgeon to be reassessed for this weekend.

Earlier today, FC Barcelona announced they will be coming to the US for 3 friendly matches during the last week of July and first week of August.

They will take on Manchester United in Washington on 7/30 as well as AC Milan on August 3rd in Miami. Barça will conclude their US Tour in Dallas against Mexico’s Club America.

Following up on the 2011 Season Ticket Holder upcharge for the “Premier Friendly”, a situation that General Manager Adrian Hanauer noted as a “fiasco”, the next Sounders FC Friendly has been touted to be played against a “Top 5 Club in the World”.

It’s doubtful that Barcelona will visit Seattle like they did in 2009, but we now know that AC Milan and Manchester United will be in the States. Grant Wahl from Sports Illustrated also noted to “expect Real Madrid too.” Do you think any of these three “Premier” European Clubs will make their way to the Emerald City in the Summer?

As we noted last week, the 1st leg of the MLS Playoffs will be in Seattle for Sounders FC. We shared with you that the tentative Playoff schedule showed “the first home playoff match would be played between Thursday, October 28th and Sunday, October 31st.”

So, not that this part is a democracy, but when is your preferred day and time for the home playoff match?

A few of the top European clubs (like Manchester United, City, and AC Milan) have noted their interest or intent to make a summer tour through the US like Chelsea and Barcelona did in 2009.

A year ago at this time, Sounders Fans already knew that The Blues were headed to the Emerald City, and the announcement of the second friendly against the Catalan Giants was announced in late April.

Yet, nothing has been announced for 2010. Yet.

That July 17th date or the 14 day gap in August look extremely attractive. Who would you love to see the Sounders play this summer?

Personally, I am rooting for the LA Galaxy to win the Cup over the Chicago Fire. No, I am not a Landycakes or Beckham fan, but I think that result raises the profile of the MLS Cup and of MLS itself to a much wider net in the US.

Luckily, LA & Chicago are the two top highest seeds in the East and West, so they are the “best” teams out there (so I don’t seem like a media whore). The highlights will be on ESPN, it willmake news; in the US and overseas. Imagine if Houston and Real Salt Lake are in the Championship??? Zzzz- it will get zero media attention- and let’s face it, more [positive] media attention IS a good thing- for MLS and soccer in the USA.
