Sounders FC host the USL’s Portland Timbers on Thursday for the Pacific Northwest edition of the Community Shield. In an anticipated matchup, over 13,000 tickets have been sold. [Buy Tickets] Proceeds from the benefit will be directed to Boys and Girls Club of Washington State, Seattle SCORES, Soccer Saves and Washington Youth Soccer.
Seattle and Portland have been rivals since 1975 when both clubs were members of the NASL. The Sounders and the Timbers also faced each other for 8 seasons when both squads were members of USL-1. Read more
Playoff #2: Sounders @ Houston (Preview)

Seattle and the Dynamo meet on Sunday in the second leg of the Western Conference Playoffs in Houston. It will be the 5th match between the two squads after two MLS regular season games, the US Open Cup semifinal, and the first leg of the playoffs. The Sounders have won 2 of the 4 games and the other two were draws. Sunday’s match will have a winner- whether it is after 90 minutes, 120 minutes, or Penalty Kicks. Read more
Playoff Preview: vs. Houston Dynamo

Sounders FC (12-7-11), becomes the second MLS squad to make the Playoff in their inaugural year as they host the Houston Dynamo (13-8-9) in the first of a home-in-home 2-game series. In what is essentially a 180 minute game the first game kicks off tonight from Qwest at 7p. [Tickets are available from Season Ticket Holders]
Get to Occidental early for the March to the Match
With a playoff berth locked up, Sounders FC enter this weekend with big plans for the fans. Here are a few reasons to get there early!
Prior to the March, the front office will be handing out t-shirts that say “I gave my Full 90″.
Northend Supporters have also created two-pole flags with Charlie Davies “9″ for fans to sign.
The march itself will head to Qwest for the season ticket holder monument unveiling.
In your seats will be place cards with Charlie’s “9″ – to be held up from 8:01 to 9:00 on the game clock. ECS is pushing it, Drew paid for it, and the front office is making it happen. Read more
Match 30: FC Dallas
The Sounders return to Qwest Field on Saturday to take on the surging squad from Dallas in the MLS Regular Season finale for both clubs.
FC Dallas (11-12-6, 39) is on the outside looking into the MLS Playoffs. Meanwhile Seattle and their 44 points have clinched a spot in the playoffs and are looking to claim the West title with a win and some luck.
When we say surging, we mean a 4-Game Win streak (and 5 of 6) for the Hoops which has squarely put them in Playoff contention with 3 other clubs for the 8th and final spot.
The Texas club brings Jeff Cunningham, who is leading MLS with 17 goals. Read more
Saturday is Sounder Fan Appreciation Day
The Sounders Organization will be saluting the fans for a tremendous inaugural season before and after Saturday’s match against FC Dallas.
- Prior to the March to the Match, the Front Office will be distributing I Gave My Full 90 t-shirts in Occidental Park.
- At 630p, a plaque will be unveiled on the Northwest Wall of Qwest Field. It will acknowledge the Season Ticket Holders for the inaugural season.
- Following the game, there will also be a ceremony with players and coaches.

Match 27: @ New England Revolution Preview
Seattle travels to New England for the first time as they start a 3-Game “Road Trip”.
The Sounders (9-6-11, 38pts) are in the midst of a Playoff Race and find themselves in a tie with with the Rapids of Colorado for 3rd place in the West (5th Place overall) as they play at Gillette Stadium on Saturday.
New England, as well, find themselves with 2 games in hand and 34 points in the East- which would be the 8th, and final, Playoff spot. Read more
Match 26: Chivas USA at Seattle Sounders FC Preview
Seattle returns to Qwest Field with the US Open Cup trophy and a league win since their last match on the XBox Pitch as they face Chivas USA on Saturday.
Sounders FC (9-6-10, 37pts) finds itself in the midst of a Playoff run with 5 matches remaining against The Goats from Southern California (11-9-3, 36pts) who is also in the same post-season posturing.
Head Boss for the Sounders, Sigi Schmid, should have his entire lineup at his disposal for the match with no players facing suspension or major injury.
This is the third meeting on the 2009 campaign for these two clubs. Read more
US Open Cup Presented to Fans Before Chivas
Prior to the “March to the Match” on Saturday morning, members of the Sounders FC ownership group will present the U.S. Open Cup trophy to fans. The fans will carry the trophy to Qwest Field.
The March will depart Occidental Park located in the heart of Pioneer Square at the intersection of Main Street and Occidental Avenue South. The “March to the Match” will depart the park at 10:30 a.m. and finish just outside the Northwest Gate, where fans can enter the stadium.
Also before the match, former North American Soccer League (NASL) Sounders will be honored in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday. Sounders FC Alliance members voted online for the player, coach or team representative that best represented the Sounders on and off of the field. The recipient with the most votes will receive the team’s Golden Scarf prior to the first kick.
Match 25: DC United Match Preview
Seattle heads back to the Capital City as they take on DC United in MLS League play on Saturday evening.
The Sounders (8-6-10, 34) return to action after a 10-day break when they last played at United in the US Open Cup Final, a match that The Rave Green won 2-1 to claim the club’s first trophy.
Since then, DC (8-5-12, 36) has played two matches; a 2-2 draw with FC Dallas and Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Kansas City- a win that saw United leapfrog Seattle in the MLS Table. Read more
