From the Club: Sounders FC Electricity Kit Fact Sheet

Background: This limited edition kit or uniform will be worn by the Sounders FC during all international friendlies played at Qwest Field and some cup matches. Each friendly will be presented by AT&T and Samsung Mobile.

Detail: The jersey features the Xbox 360 logo and a tone on tone or one-color Sounders badge positioned on the left chest and accented by the traditional adidas 3-stripes. The jersey, shorts and socks will all feature the same color palette.

Sleeve Patches: The U.S. flag is featured on the left sleeve and the MLS logo on included on the right sleeve.

Primary Color: Electricity (Pantone 809C)

Accent Color: Rave Green (Pantone 370C)

Material: The performance design cues carry over with adidas FORMOTION and CLIMACOOL. FORMOTION technology allows the uniforms to move naturally with the athlete’s body resulting in ideal comfort while in motion. CLIMACOOL technology combines moisture wicking fabric with strategically placed mesh material in the player’s heat zones to keep the athlete at optimum temperature.

chelsea jersey a few years back

and it might be our new 3rd kit. this is a unsubstantiated rumor, but a friend of mine was buying some new shoes this weekend, and the store employee told him that the 3rd kit was going to be neon yellow. he heard this from an adidas rep. so yes, this is a bit of a telephone game. i heard from a friend who heard it from a store employee who heard it from a rep, and hell, maybe that rep didn’t know what he is talking about.

so file this under the rumor category for sure, but if it happens, lord i will be pissed.

chelsea’s jersey a few years back prompted one of my favorite chants of all times… “are you stewards, are you stewards, are you stewards in disguise…. are you stewards in disguise”

I HATE THIS JERSEY.

it reminds me of the my first ski jacket when i was a freshman in high school. as a 13 year old, i thought a neon yellow bugaboo jacket from columbia was the greatest thing in the world… that is, until i constantly got asked how many batteries it took to keep it lit, or asked if i could fill in as a traffic guard, or people put their sunglasses on to talk to me. yes, this color brings back some deep emotional demons that i thought i had supressed years ago,  and it should not find it’s way onto our jersey. rave green is already pushing the envelope for me personally.

if this is our third jersey, i hope nobody with any sense decides to plop down $80 for it so the person that makes these types of decisions is sent a clear message

Earlier this week Sounders FC General Manager Adrian Hanauer was asked about a cascade shale alternated jersey to which he replied, “I can’t promise shale grey but there might be a little surprise in the jersey category coming this summer.”

Is this a gimmick for the jersey sales? That’s possible. But according to CONCACAF Champions League Rules:

The visiting team must, in any case, bring two sets of uniforms to the stadiums that do not conflict with the home team’s uniform. (11.2.C)

Is it that simple? I’m not familiar with the kits Caribbean and Central American clubs, but I am guessing that the Rave Green traditionals of Sounders FC wouldn’t cause a conflict- however I’m guessing the Sounder Blue jerseys could. So is the need to have a third color based on this?

So what color alternate jersey would you like to see? We’re aware of the Yellow kit rumor. What about plain and simple white? A dark Cascade Shale? An obnoxious fluorescent-like hue Barcelona’s pink or Chelesea’s yellow?

• In their traditional G-B-G, they are 12-2-6 (2.1 ppm)
• While sporting G-G-B, they are 2-4-4 (1.0 ppm)
• In the Rave Green from head to toe (G-G-G), Seattle is 0-3-0 (0.00 ppm)

As a note, these records include international friendlies and US Open Cup matches.

The Sounders have worn, what is becoming the staple, G-B-G combo 16 times in MLS and US Open Cup competition. They have a 11-1-4 record.

The G-G-B set was the de facto road kit, until two matches ago when they went to Salt Lake. Sounders FC have gone G-G-B 8 times, going 1-3-4.

Up until the first international friendly, those were the only two uniform combinations. Against Chelsea, Barcelona, and at Real Salt Lake, the Sounders came out sporting G-G-G and have promptly gone L-L-L.

And, of course, last week at the Home Depot Center, the Sounders wore B-B-G for the first time and won 2-0.

Maybe you thought that Rave Green was ugly and you bought the Sounder Blue Jersey instead. Then you were wondering why you spent your money.

Well, the Front Office announced today that the Sounders will be wearing the all-blue alternate kit for the first time on Wednesday when they take on the Portland Timbers in the Third Round of the US Open Cup at PGE Park

As a note, Sebastien LeToux has two goals and two assists in US Open Cup play this year. In 2007 and ‘08, he was the US Open Cup goal scoring leader (with 5 in each of those Cups).
